Tense and chilling suspense thriller that has a haunting past!
22 February 2020
"When a Stranger Calls" from 1979 is a cult chiller classic as the famous words "Have you checked the children" stand long in memory. And the start and ending of the film is best, the scenes and dark backgrounds make for some scary moments. It involves Carol Kane as Jill Johnson a teen babysitter who's terrorized by strange phone calls while baby sitting only then tragedy happens, then the film expands and slows down and goes over a period of seven years, then Jill later an adult again has a past haunt! The film ends well. Overall good classic horror chiller of tease, and tense psycho like fear.

A daddy complex.
22 February 2020
This episode 6 from season one of "Modern Love" called "So He Looked like Dad It Was Just Dinner, Right"? is one that's touching and it shows just how other people remind us of others and that relationships are often unlikely. It involves Maddy(Julia Garner) a temp. office worker who becomes attracted to her older executive boss Peter(Shea Whigham). It's like he reminds her of her dad! Yet it's a spin and take on attraction and lust some may not like this tale, yet I thought for it's tough theme of daddy like attraction it was one of the series better episodes.

A look at the up and downs of marriage and family.
18 February 2020
This episode 4 from season one of "Modern Love" called "Rallying to Keep the Game Alive" is one that just basically looks at the life of a married couple with kids who have doubt and concern as they try to figure things out. Modern Love: Take Me as I Am, Whoever I Am (2019)

Dreaming for love, thinking about what might have been!
18 February 2020
This episode 3 from season 1 of "Modern Love" called "Take Me as I Am, Whoever I Am" is one that's well done and written yet it may have one feeling a little down after they watch. Anne Hathaway stars as Lexi a single office worker who only dreams of love as her past love brings tears. Only it's her problem of being bi polar that causes her only to dream for love. Raw episode yet it's moved along just fine with Anne's performance.

Downhill (2020)

A film of reflection after an occurence, it puts life, love, and relationship into the spotlight.
18 February 2020
"Downhill" is one film that could be called a drama blended as a comedy though the humor may seem a little dark and dreary still it brings laughs even in tense moments. Also the film is one of looking at doubt and reflects on things after a happening in life causes a married couple to rethink things. The story set in the Alps involves Billie(the perfect Julia Louis Dreyfus) and Pete(Will Ferrell) a married couple with kids and after a near fatal avalanche occurs life and focus is brought into the front for the couple. It's really a test of character, will, and fate, will love and time conquer all? The viewing is different as it's not all comedy much of it is serious yet the chemistry from Dreyfus and Ferrell works.

Ghost of lovers past! Touching to see that old flames can reconnect!
13 February 2020
Many can relate to losing love and connecting our wanting to reconnect with an old flame, and this episode 2 from season one of "Modern Love" highlights that theme just perfect. Called "When Cupid Is A Prying Journalist" involves Dev Patel as Joshua a dating app inventor who feels burned by love and as he relates his story to a journalist named Julie(Catherine Keener) memories and thoughts of passion and times past are brought out in her! It's like the past has come back for her! And this prompts Joshua to visit his past love and give a try with his ex lover. Overall well done episode that gives hope to anyone who wants to reconnect with a past love of their life.

The pros and cons of work as it's pro union vs. pro labor, and it spotlights how technology affects worker trade.
12 February 2020
This is an interesting and eye opening doc on how business of factories in American is cutting it these days. The footage and interviews are blunt and revealing and eye opening as it shows the current work force is no bed of roses. In post industrial Ohio after layoffs a Chinese billionaire arrives near Dayton to open a new glass factory. And the news is all good at first however many negatives are found less pay harder work and the cultural clashes of the two countries are well felt. Most telling is the company stance against union and the workers need a pro union stance for better ways of work and life. So a political theme and message is found still the film has it's own voice which looks at both sides. And finally machine and electronics may soon be over taking man on the job.

Informative and entertaining doc on tough and corrupt attorney.
10 February 2020
"Where's My Roy Cohn?" is one doc that's well done with old footage, interviews and even own words from Roy that describe this very complex man as somewhat evil or a true American it's who you ask. The film tells of his origins as how he was a real mommies boy, and interested in politics from a young age. Him becoming an attorney his connections helped shaped the future political world, as his first steps were the prosecution of the Rosenbergs, then he was the right hand man to Senator Joseph McCarthy, then Roy sprung out to be a man of his own in the New York legal world.

Roy always fought and sought power never admitting guilt, as he knew how to con and manipulate the system from business dealings to bribes, and dealings with politicians, real estate people and lying to get away. Yet he was good personal friends with Barbara Walters and would mentor Donald Trump during his early days, all while hiding in the closet. As in the 80's rumors begin only Roy denied his homosexuality and dying of "AIDS" until the final day. Well done look at a dark figure of 20 century society. Roy will long be remembered as odd, different and determined heck he even kept a stuffed animal collection.

The Oscars (2020 TV Special)

"The Oscars" takes an international twist and turn! Brad has his once upon a Hollywood moment, and Laura gets an early golden birthday present!
10 February 2020
"The 92nd Annual Academy Awards"(the earliest one ever held(early Feb.)) checked in at it's normal time of 3 hours 30 minutes! The ceremony was good, smooth and highlighted by great musical performances and the highlights of the way music has went hand and hand with movies was good! Plus the presenters were good and tried to be funny it was nice to see beautiful elegant ladies like Julia Louis Dreyfus and Sigourney Weaver hand out awards as they shined and look sexy in gray and green dresses respectively.

Brad Pitt(he has finally arrived as the man! "Entertainment Weekly") as he won rightfully for best supporting actor for his well liked guy in "OUATIH" . Laura Dern won best supporting actress for her tough hard lawyer turn in "Marriage Story" as the Feb.10 birthday lady got an early present in the form of a gold statue! Having good genes from acting parents helps mold a winner! Renee Zellweger won best actress for her role as Judy Garland in "Judy" her speech was a moving emotional tribute to a Hollywood legend it was a tribute to history! Joaquin won as expected for "Joker" as the best actor winner's speech gave awareness to people to think of social issues, and remember to love.

Now surprise I must say that the crime drama and take on social class thriller "Parasite" rightfully won best international film, and the talented Bong Joon Ho winning best director was okay. However it was a little bit surprising when Jane Fonda's lips read the best picture winner as "Parasite" . And true I agree the South Korea picture was entertaining with a plot twist and kept you on edge as it was a cat and mouse game of guessing. Still the throwback golden era action drama of Quentin's "OUATIH" was upset! As the Academy typically likes to look at a throwback era that involves movie history with stories that connects movie stars! However the voters choose an international tale, the feeling of diversity is starting to ring true to members thoughts and minds! Overall good well done show(that had no host again for the second year in a row!) As the rightfully winners won and gave emotional speeches and again their was an upset with the best picture winner! Still "Parasite" is a super great film glad it broke some of the Academy mold as it's time for diversity to shine!

Hair rules the day sentimental and touching short.
9 February 2020
This short picture animated film "Hair Love" is fun and touching it has a sentimental feel of fun and happiness. It involves a young girl who wants a new hair style and emotions are high as it's change plus her mom is bald due to cancer treatment. To make matters tougher her dad must fix her hair for the first time! Even twists do happen even though the picture is short. The animation is cool and well done too!

Liar!? As many confessions were false brought on by corrupt crooked officials!
9 February 2020
This is one interesting and moving doc as it shows doubt and reveals much truth about supposed serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. Lucas who when caught in the mid 80's a drifter and low IQ near toothless one eyed guy started confessing to hundreds of unsolved murders throughout the U.S.. And over eager and stubborn crooked police officials feed Henry the right info to look like many of their cases were solved. The footage is eye opening with documents, travel logs, interviews, witnesses and trial footage that helped shed light on this crazy blown up hoax. As Lee was used as a scapegoat for the criminal justice system, yet investigations, and retractions, and new DNA evidence shined new light on all involved. This should be as a lesson to show this is not what we want from officials, media, and the justice system. As this doc was a great truth revealing and eye opening mission of real justice.

Birds of a different feather! High Flying kick butt action bad girl style!
9 February 2020
As a "D.C." comics fan I see most all of the movies and this latest was a kick butt action style drama with twist and turns as it is a spotlight of bad girls at their best "Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn delivers with action and story. Harley Quinn(Margot Robbie) has just split from her boyfriend "The Joker" so she has to spread her wings free and become a free girl! All of this is helped along by a cast of side characters like detective Renee Montoya, Huntress, and the sexy and beautiful black bra wearing Black Canary! However all are tied and wrapped up in a wild card subplot that involves defeating a crazy and sadistic crime lord in Roman Sionis(AKA "Black Mask") and underneath all of this lies the search for a diamond and teenager named Cass(Ella Jay Basco). Aside from all of this the film entertains with violence, action, bombs, and flashbacks that tell character story. Look at this as a bad ass female group as each fight crime and for their own way of life in a gleeful way The costumes are also an eye catch and the dialogue moves the film along well, so if a comic book fan open up to this picture as it's full of antiheroine glory.

Unbelievable (2019)
10/10
In depth and deep tense realism like crime procedural that has a twist and connection.
3 February 2020
"Unbelievable" is without a doubt a strong and tense drama that unfolds with twist and mystery and new discoveries as each episode passes. The scene are blunt and raw as it deals with the tough sensitive matter of serial rape cases. The investigation is deep and strong with the typical evidence of "DNA", technology, and new methods of investigative work. The chemistry and acting is strong from Dever, Collette, and Wever.

Based on real headlines the series follows the supposed attack and rape of one foster kid in Washington state named Marie(Kaitlyn Dever) only out of fear and shame she doubts this ever happened. Now fast forward to a few years later in Colorado two detectives Grace(Toni Collette) and Karen(Meritt Wever) from local but different departments are dealing with their own unsolved attacks and rapes from a serial type offender. Things change and twist with each discover and new investigative leads only all of this connects up for all involved in both states. Overall excellent investigative crime drama that felt close to real headline cases, the series really had blunt and brash realistic points of view that glued me to it.

Super Bowl LIV (2020 TV Special)

Hail to the Chiefs! Big Red finally gets long overdue Super bowl win!
3 February 2020
Thumbs up and cheer for the big man Andy, finally as a head coach after 21 years he wins a Super Bowl! The monkey is off his back and his demons have been put to rest! I was glad for him after many close seasons and heart breakers with my favorite team the "Philadelphia Eagles", big Andy finally got one! And he deserved it! As his team "The Kansas City Chiefs" could be called the come back kids as when down no game was never in doubt with gun thrower Patrick Mahomes at the helm!

"Super Bowl LIV" played in Miami, Florida was a decent and thrilling game of peaks, valleys, highs and lows. As Kansas City lead after one quarter with the 49ers coming back to tie the game at the half. The San Fran D would clamp down in the second half forcing two Patrick picks and go up 20-10! Never fear these are the Chiefs who fought hard and came back strong after being down all playoff season. Combined with the poor decision and play calling of Kyle Shanahan not grinding and pounding the ball after being up, young signal caller Jimmy Garoppolo could not convert on two late drives as the 49ers punted on downs! With the ball in Mahomes hands deep throws down the field saved the day for Kansas City as Patrick was game MVP after throwing for 286 and 3 total touchdowns two passing and one rush TD, despite having two picks the Chiefs are now once again "Super Bowl" champs first time since I think since 1970! Finally things come full circle and I'm glad it did for Big Red as Andy Reid is a super bowl winning head coach!(I just wish he could have won one with the "Philadelphia Eagles")

Buddy and Randall have their wings clipped in South Florida!
30 January 2020
Remember this late season game from the 1990 season as my team the "Philadelphia Eagles" would lose and go down to the Dolphins in Miami in a close game 23-20! It was Dec. 9, 1990 on a Sunday night on "ESPN" a hard hitting close game that was tied 10-10 at the half! The play from Cunningham was not enough as Dan the man outgunned him thru the air. As Buddy's blitzes and the Birds pass rush were burned by the Dolphins as Don Shula got a laugh over Buddy Ryan, as clearly this was one of the tough losses of the 1990 season for the Philadelphia Eagles!

Fun and intense chase cartoon!
30 January 2020
"Ren and Stimpy" would dominate the early 90's as it was a kids watch and popular cartoon. The show featured the most extreme adventures of a crazed cat and dog the gags and plot were often far out and very funny. The show was blunt and a little gross with things however many kids and parents may be turned off by the wild violence and crazy chases still it was a fun thrill ride to watch!

Cool far out crazy animation show!
30 January 2020
Remember the mid to late 90's and how this show on "MTV" called "Beavis and Butt-Head" would rule and rock the airwaves! The program was far out and crazy with crude and rude comedy of two dumb teens who hated school and enjoyed watching TV mostly rock music videos! This was a pop culture thing that had a hold on 90's teens, as these guys were care free and wreaked havoc on life and society however they seemed to struggle when scoring with chicks, the only model and saying that mattered was that sucks! Not everyone's cup of tea yet a watch if you like strange gross comedy!

The video countdown show I grew up on!
30 January 2020
Remember being a kid in the late 80's and early 90's and every weekend would watch the top 20 countdown on "MTV" the show was fun and informative! The hosts ranged from Adam Curry, John Norris, Karen Duffy, and Karen Bryant! Each show played and showed the week's hottest and most requested videos, some songs that were on the way down and moving out of the countdown only received a clip as it was called the plunge of the week! Some hits would race up the charts while many hits and singles would dominate the number one spot! Boy those were the days "MTV" rocked! The show had good graphics and often gave music trivia and band info for all fans.

The Mutilator (1984)
4/10
Typical 80's horror slasher showing when killing mommie by accident, daddy gets revenge!
25 January 2020
"The Mutilator" is one that has the typical 80's gore with blood, skin and gore that involves sex driven teens. Though the film does have some of a story as it involves the past where a young little boy by accident shot his mom to death. Only years later when a teen when one fall him and his friends decide to take a fall atlantic beach vacation get away, daddy reappears with revenge and bloody gore on his mind! The mood of the film is dark and the deaths are typical 80's slasher like overall a watch for any horror buff fan.

Clemency (2019)
6/10
A film of self doubt and emotional regret and painful psych wounds!
25 January 2020
"Clemency" is one roller coaster of a ride film that challenges your take and feelings on our current state of justice, that being the hot button topic of capital punishment. And this is a showcase showing how one prison warden named Bernadine Williams(in a strong turn from Alfre Woodard) deals with the emotional and mental toll that doing executions at her prison takes on her. Thru it all after each death of an inmate by lethal injection and with the media and society always on the watch Bernadine starts to experience emotional drama and even have self doubt as her job is really starting to affect her. As being strong and by the book is starting to give her self doubt and her mind takes on a guilt like complex. Overall okay film that give rise and awareness to a social justice issue as it shows it's impact and emotional toll on people and society.

Parasite (2019)

Clever plot that twist with a surprise call it good verus bad, rich against poor, overall great film!
21 January 2020
Director Bong Joon-Ho really did it with his latest picture "Parasite" as it is one entertaining dark suspense drama that is revealing as the plot twist with a surprise which brings change for all of the characters. Despite reading subtitles the film is thrilling and entertaining as it involves the poor Ki-taek family who have a young boy and girl who become tutors to the kids of the wealthy Park family only a scheme really lies underneath it all only an incident happens and a discovery changes the game for all, still the Ki-taek family is stubborn and proud as they will do anything to survive. Overall good take and spin on class that's supported by shrewdness, suspense, intrigue, drama, and pumping black heart like comedy. "Parasite" by far by the way it entertains and grabs you was one of 2019's best films.

21 January 2020
Well leave it up to David Lynch as he has done it again make some work that entertains and twist in a funny and strange way. "What Did Jack Do?" which is a "Netflix" exclusive features Lynch himself as a detective hot on a case and he's interviewing his suspect however that is "Jack" and he's a little monkey! The script is funny and strange with foul words and the monkey remembering the past as he sings, shot in black and white to give a real throwback mystery type feel this short entertains and delivers!
