Disappointing
15 February 2020
It was somewhat entertaining and easily kept my attention, but I didn't like the inconsistencies in the story.

There was a mystery that was gradually revealed and some scenes were frightening, but some parts of the story were incomplete and made little sense. And the ending was unsatisfying.

It was annoying that people were behaving stupidly and leaving themselves vulnerable in a life threatening situation - why not grab a weapon of some kind?

Good cast, but poor screenwriting and direction
15 February 2020
This one could have been a lot better with it's very good cast and decent special effects, but the screenwriting and direction were a big let down.

I could go into details with spoilers, but anyone who has watched the movie will know exactly what I mean.

Best Vietnam War Movie
26 January 2020
It's so good to see a Vietnam War film that honors a brave man who sacrificed his own life to save others.

Too many of the movies about Vietnam have been anti-American, portraying the men who fought there in an unfairly degrading way.

This one is well-written, nicely directed and has a great cast. It is probably the best ever made about the Vietnam War.

Decent Crime Thriller
25 January 2020
I see some harshly negative reviews, some of them duplicated on IMDB. I don't understand why there is so much anger being expressed. I was surprised at how good this one is. I put off watching it for a while because I thought it might be something really bad (like some other recent movies Bruce Willis has been in, such as 10 Minutes Gone).

The two main actors are ideal for their roles. Frank Grillo plays a good-intentioned but somewhat obsessive bank manager, while Johnathon Schaech plays a hardened son of a decorated but disabled war veteran.

The supporting cast with Olivia Culpo, Bruce Willis and others is also very good.

The movie was never intended to be a deep, complex psychological drama, it's a crime thriller and it is quite entertaining and enjoyable so long as the viewer doesn't take it too seriously.

A Great Movie
23 January 2020
I didn't believe it was still possible to make a great war movie, one that is historically accurate and doesn't have the anti-American agenda that has ruined so many war movies made during the past few decades.

However I was pleasantly surprised.

Midway is about 98% historically accurate, and it does not demean nor disparage the brave American men who fought in the early part of the war with Japan.

Good Locations, Poor Story
23 January 2020
Although parts of the movie are nice enough to watch because of the locations, overall the movie isn't very good.

To begin with, the Sister's brothers are played by actors aged 45 and 55. It would have made more sense to have them played by men in their late 20s or 30s.

There's some gunfights where a lot of people are killed, but the brothers are left without a scratch. It would have been more realistic if the gunfights were 2 vs 2 with the results being the same.

Some parts of the movie are dull. The attempts at humor generally failed, and were just boring to watch. The dialogue between the brothers is far from interesting.

The ending is rather poor, if you think about it - but I won't go into details that would make for a spoiler.

I can understand why it bombed - it shows word of mouth is more important than critics reviews.

Entertaining
18 January 2020
I don't agree with the harshly negative reviews for this movie.

The cast is excellent. There are three very good actresses: Linda Hamilton, MacKenzie Davis, and Natalia Reyes. And we have Arnold Schwarzenegger in an unusual role as a terminator who completed his mission of killing John Connor, but remained among humans and helps a woman raise her son.

While it's true that some scenes are very similar to scenes in other terminator movies, other parts are original and overall it's quite entertaining.

First half was very good, but it went downhill after that
16 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Up to a certain point, I was enjoying the movie, and would have given it an 8 out of 10 rating.

During the first half of the movie, the characters were realistic, behaving as people would in those circumstances. The only thing that made little sense was the young guy having so much guilt over killing someone in self-defense - someone who was trying to murder him and almost succeeded.

Gerard Butler's character seemed to be the strongest of the three, both mentally and physically. The way he reacted after defending himself and the others against the three malefactors was not consistent with his character earlier in the movie. When the Butler character went insane, it became frustrating to watch and made little sense.

Good acting, but not enjoyable to watch
9 January 2020
This one was somewhat interesting for the first 30 minutes or so, but became rather dull and a bit frustrating to watch after awhile. As others have said in the reviews here, the ending was unsatisfying and seemed incomplete.

The protagonist is not a likable character, the viewer is unlikely to identify with him. Some parts of the script were nicely written and brief moments were somewhat philosophical and thought-provoking, but overall the story is neither interesting nor enjoyable.

The King (I) (2019)

Nice Visuals and Costumes, Poorly Written Story and Not Historically Accurate
1 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are impressive battle scenes in this movie, and the costume design is excellent. Some of the cast perform very well, such as Sean Harris, Thomasin McKenzie, Joel Edgerton, and Thibault de Montalembert.

But the story is poorly written and it greatly changes history. The real events of this time period are much more interesting than those of the contrived and rather silly story of this movie.

1. They ignore the ten years between the Percy Rebellion and the death of King Henry IV. The king was just age 36 and not dying in 1403, he actually died in 1413. Henry "Hotspur" Percy, shown as a young guy about age 20 in the movie, was actually three years older than Henry IV.

2. They chose the wrong actor to play Henry V. He looks much younger than Henry was at Agincourt (Henry V was age 29 at the time). Henry was actually a typical Plantagenet, a tall, athletic, strong man, not adolescent-looking. He had a stronger personality, he was more charismatic and better able to inspire his men.

3. Henry V never killed Hotspur in single combat. Henry was just age 17 in 1403, while Hotspur was age 39, although they seem about the same age in the movie.

4. Henry was not as rebellious and as much a drunkard as shown in the movie. He was, like many of us a bit wild in his teens, but this was greatly exaggerated in the movie. Although he probably had disagreements with the king, I doubt as a devout Christian he truly hated his father, as shown in this movie.

5. Henry V never killed William Gascoigne, who died in 1419 at the age of 69. Gascoigne retired voluntarily several years before his death.

6. The English nobility and clergy are all portrayed as stupid, scheming and/or cowardly, while the drunkard Falstaff is portrayed as wise, honorable and brave. This is rather silly.

7. The Dauphin of France never came to meet Henry before the battle of Agincourt, nor did Henry go to the French camp to challenge the Dauphin to single combat. It would have been foolish for either to risk capture.

Had potential, but didn't succeed
30 October 2019
This one has a very good cast and quality cinematography, and had an interesting start. It could have been a very good TV series.

But it went downhill with the time changes which gave us spoilers, and some poor screenwriting. Especially annoying was the BBC's usual Cultural Marxist anti-British propaganda in the dialogue.

Worth Watching
18 September 2019
The Isle is much better than most supernatural horror movies. The acting is very good, as is the cinematography.

It's a mystery that gradually builds the viewer's curiosity, and in the end, all is revealed.

Interesting to see the Conleth Hill perform well in a very different role than in Game of Thrones, it shows he has a good range as an actor.

Good Acting and Cinematography
4 September 2019
The story is somewhat interesting and keeps one's attention. But the strongest attribute of this film is the casting of two very capable British actors, David Oakes and Ray Stevenson, in the main roles. I had only seen Oakes play unlikable characters before, while Stevenson has usually been in more positive roles.

The cinematography, which features picturesque scenes of the isolated island and the surrounding ocean, is also quite good.

One of the Best of 2018
1 September 2019
This one has an interesting story, and it's not predictable. It's different than anything I've seen before. It has a great cast, including some talented people most of us haven't seen before. It's nicely directed and features excellent cinematography and very good costume design.

What's not to like? The negative reviews don't make sense.

Not Nearly As Good As The First Movie
30 August 2019
I was somewhat disappointed in this movie. It was too predictable, the dialogue wasn't so good, and the direction wasn't great.

The first Jack Reacher movie was directed by Christopher McQuarrie who also wrote an excellent screenplay. Edward Zwick simply isn't as good.

Not Worth Watching
29 August 2019
The lead actor isn't very good and didn't fit the role very well. Yet this movie has a great actor like Kurt Russell and a very good actor like Luke Hemsworth in smaller supporting roles.

Sadly, we see the usual negative stereotypes of Russians as heartless gangsters.

The story definitely could have been better, and the direction left something to be desired.

Dark Western
28 August 2019
This is a Western with an element of horror.

You can feel the fear of the main character in his dealings with the trio of villains. Many of the scenes happen after dark and the ground is always muddy. Several times we see the people who were killed by the trio having their bodies washed by the undertaker and lowered into a grave.

Not a bad western, a bit different than most. Worth a watch.

Excellent Cast
25 August 2019
James McAvoy puts on an amazingly good performance in this film. The rest of the cast (Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Charlayne Woodard, Spencer Treat Clark, Anya Taylor-Joy and Sarah Paulson) perform very well too.

The story, although not great, is interesting enough to keep one's attention for the duration of the movie.

Underrated Crime Thriller
22 August 2019
This is definitely one I'll watch again.

Night Hunter is a fairly complex crime thriller, nicely directed and intelligently written. There's a very good cast, with Henry Cavill, Eliana Jones, Stanley Tucci and Alexandra Daddario. Brendan Fletcher is perfect for the role of Simon.

It's not as predictable as most movies of the genre, with several unexpected twists along the way.

Another Silly Sci-Fi Movie
21 August 2019
Although somewhat intriguing for the first 20 minutes, after that it is annoyingly bad. The direction leaves a lot to be desired.

It's rather like the Terminator movies in reverse - only in this one, the androids who take over the world are the good guys and the humans are the villains. This seems to be a rather silly idea for a sci-fi movie.

Learn from my mistake of watching it, and don't waste your time.

Realistic
20 August 2019
This is a brutally honest, accurate, and realistic account of the events that occurred during the 2008 Taj Mahal Palace Hotel terrorist attack.

The director did an excellent job. Most of the acting is very good as well.

It's nice to watch a movie that reminds us that no matter how much insanity there is in the world, there are also courageous people like the characters Arjun and Vasili.

Too Predictable
20 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There was nothing unexpected in this one. Of course the characters that were dead somehow came back to life. We all knew that had to happen before we watched it.

Obviously this kind of movie is made for children and for adults with the minds of children. But I can't imagine any normal adult enjoying it.

Box Office Bomb
18 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie did very poorly at the box office, and it's easy to see why. People take word-of-mouth opinions of their friends more seriously than the ultra-PC critics.

It could have been better, with some changes here and there. The movie has a very good cast, and does have some interesting dialogue here and there and there are some memorable scenes.

But it was tedious in parts, and too long for this type of story. The confrontation in the last 30 minutes (which everything was building up to) was a big disappointment. The ending was not credible - why would a thug who was just out of prison and had participated in an armed robbery with multiple murders of innocent people suddenly become an honorable person?

Never A Dull Moment
26 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has plenty of action and suspense. The acting is very good too, especially that of the main character, played by Scott Adkins.

Unlike many movies of it's genre, there's an interesting story underlying all the violence. An honest decent man is betrayed by his own unscrupulous brother,. He goes to prison and is repeatedly beaten into becoming a vengeful and ruthless killer. Then he escapes, and I won't spoil the rest of the story.

Not Worth Watching
26 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The IMBD rating for this one is exactly right. Although the movie is somewhat mysterious and is different than most, it's not a good movie.

The pace is a bit slow and it becomes repetitive, even though it's run time isn't long. The story seems pointless even at the end. The acting isn't very good and none of the characters are at all likable.

There are thousands of much better movies, my advice is to choose another. This one isn't really worth watching.
