Standard Will Ferrell
And that's not a compliment. Will Ferrell proved once again that he just isn't funny. Nothing he did on this episode was humorous. Ryan Reynolds was the clear star of the monologue. The long list of guest stars in this episode shows how lacking most of the cast members are when it comes to impressions. And King Princess about put me to sleep -- super boring.
Saturday Night Live: Harry Styles (2019)
And that was the only highlight. All the sketches fell flat and it just wasn't entertaining.
The formula is already worn out
So, is this what is going to happen every week? Te head doctor will tell Carol what to do, she'll ignore her and in the end, we'll find out that she was right. This episode had basically the same plot as the first episode. We expect better from Patricia Heaton.
Carol's Second Act: Pilot (2019)
I had high hopes for this as Patricia Heaton is usually dependable. This was not funny at all. The characters are all unlikable and stereotypes. The writing is weak and there isn't much plot. I have a feeling Carol's second act is going to be short.
This was a great start to the season. Lots of high spots and on point guest appearances. Maya as Kamala was so spot on. Colin shined in Update. And who knew that a wardrobe assistant jumping her queue would create such natural laughter -- we couldn't help but laugh with Aidy. As usual, things drop off near the end and I understand all the fuss about Billie Eilish even less now after those "performances."
A Star Is Born (2018)
Why does this movie keep getting remade? It was a flimsy story with zero surprises (even if you haven't seen the previous versions) and like many reviewers, I found it extremely boring.
Don't Need a House
This couple doesn't need a house, they need a divorce. The husband was just a jerk from start to finish. He wasn't worried about his wife's needs at all (having to commute to work is way more important than being near the beach).
Why do writers and producers think this is a good idea? No sitcom has ever been made better by doing a musical episode. It was truly hard to watch.
9-1-1: Ocean's 9-1-1 (2019)
Did they bring in amateur writers for this one? Every bit of dialogue was dreadful, the story line was weak and predictable. I could barely make it through the episode.
Veep: South Carolina (2019)
The timing on this show is impeccable. It was not filmed recently, yet it is so timely today. The irreverence and lack of PC is refreshing. For me, the best part of this episode was during the credits. Anna Chlumsky a la Kellyanne was brilliant. Her expressions were hilarious.
I have never been a Michael fan -- he has never been good for Jane, so I hate this story line.
Sara Bareilles was wonderful. Some of the skits came close to hitting a mark, but not a single one nailed it.
I usually enjoy this show, but this episode was subpar. The tired TV trope didn't work. I'm surprised the set is still standing -- just about everyone was chewing the scenery throughout the whole episode. Please get back on track.
SMILF: Single Mom is Losing Faith (2019)
This show often marches to the beat of its own drum (which is one of the things that make it intriguing), but whoever thought this episode was a good idea can't hear the music at all. It was so bad, I stopped it before it was over and went to something that was actually entertaining.
I love Sandra Oh and she fully committed to every single sketch, but she truly deserves much better than this. After, the cold opening, it was just not funny. Even Weekend Update was not on point. I had never heard of Tame Impala (and doubt I'll hear of him again) -- listened to the first performance and skipped the second because he just wasn't entertaining/interesting.
This was an interesting premise that just did not work on any level. I barely made it through because it was just horrible, unfunny and a waste of time.
9-1-1: Chimney Begins (2019)
Hen vs. Chimney
I get doing the back story thing. But did we really need to see Howie go through basically the same thing that Hen did as a rookie? Last year's episode Hen Begins was much better and more compelling.
Documentary Now!: Long Gone (2019)
Boring, Boring, Boring
Waiting for The Artist was top notch hilarity. This episode was just as boring as could be and didn't make me laugh even once. Such a disappointment.
For the People: First Inning (2019)
What happened to this show? This was truly awful and I don't know where to start. First, ABC killed it by the lengthy delay between season 1 and season 2. I'd forgotten the character names and situations,. This episode was filled with utterly ridiculous situations, bad acting and even worse writing.
One Bad Apple
Kristen Johnson and the horrible story lines the writers have created for her are ruining this show. The other characters had strong story lines (except for Wendy who was more a bystander in this episode), but this one bumbling distraction takes away from all that.
That **** Golden Buzzer
I'm not sure why they bill this as America will put two acts through as it's simply not true. They need to get rid of that Golden Buzzer. Like the regular show, the judges so often waste it, especially on undeserving acts. I don't care if they touched your heart with their sad story, it should be about talent. It's discouraging seeing the judges' picks go through rather than actually talented acts.
Why are people confused?
I really don't understand these people who complain week after week that there's not enough sci-fi in this show...yet continue to watch it. Maybe you could check out the genres listed or an actual review. Guess what? It's not a sci-fi show. It is drama and mystery. There's plenty of sci-fi out there, so stop hating on this show. Your lives will be happier.
Hit or Miss
James McAvoy did a good job handling various accents and making the most of his scenes, but this episode was hit or miss. There'd be a decent skit followed by a clunker. Kate McKinnon was the star cast member in her various incarnations and Mikey Day was great as the passenger pilot. But so many skits were forgettable. The "rambunctious brothers in their underwear" skit was practically indistinguishable from the last time they did this skit -- I actually thought it was a rerun at first. Two rap clips and a rapper as the musical guest? Too much.
Good Trouble (2019)
Bad Decisions Abound
I really wanted to like this show because I enjoyed The Fosters, but I'm struggling. Good Trouble? More like Bad Decisions. Callie and Mariana continue to make one bad decision after another and they have surrounded themselves with a whole menagerie of people who do the same. They are supposed to now be a law school graduate and an MIT graduate. If they made decisions like they continue to do now while they were in college, neither would have graduated or landed their jobs. The writers are letting them down by continuing to write them as the teenage girls they were rather than the women they should have become.
Someone needs to shoot this show and put it out of its misery. Every interaction was concocted and unrealistic. Sheldon has gone from quirky to completely unlikable -- I guess they don't want us to miss him when the show ends. Penny and Leonard continue to argue about the same things. And Raj and whats her name (seriously, not a clue) finally realized what viewers have been screaming about all season long. The writers and actors have given up.
