In the Tall Grass (2019)
Nothing new, another good book turned into an effortless bad movie
Producers: how many garbage movies should we create so users keep thinking it's worth it paying $15,99 per month?
Me: Ight Imma head out
Terrible, terrible... dumb storyline.
Honestly, the original cartoon with its limitations has a more interesting story than this almost 2 hours of pure lame dialogues and annoying teenagers. Even some action scenes can't save it.
Had a high expectation because of Guillermo del Toro was involved but ended up being just like another regular/good jump scare movie (for teens)
I've been waiting all this year for this movie, as Guillermo del Toro is the mastermind director of the movie Pan's Labyrinth - one the best in the dark fantasy genre, with some of the creepiest creatures ever.
Here in Sacry Stories to Tell in the Dark Guillerno del Toronto is only the producer - and clearly the movie lacks his talent as a director, it doesn't get even close to the originality and scariness of Pan's Labyrinth. Rather, you'll find a popular formula for horror movies, not accidentally coping the vibes of the Stranger Things tv show, delivering a boring/repetitive storyline, with some really creepy and scary creatures (the best part of the movie). It looks like it was designed for the teen public, with some moral story behind it all.
Not impressed and still it's worth it to be watched in the movie theater.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
3 hours of movie: 90% a waste of your time and 10% of some good action, that's it
I had no choice but to watch it to finish the sequence. The worst of all the Avengers movies. Apart from some action scenes all the rest it is pure lame dialogues and poor performances.
Purely made to make money out of a "trendy" public that are rating this movie high because I've never met one single person who has read the comics and like this garbage.
At least, there will be no more of this, I hope.
El Hijo (2019)
Predictable. Boring. Forgettable.
They had in one hand a good concept and a good cast, and on the other, a confusing storyline and a poor execution. The result is a mess of a movie not worth the time spent to watch it. Nice try though.
Secret Obsession (2019)
Considering canceling my Netflix after this terrible movie...
It's so bad that I felt disrespected by Netflix. Now they're making any generic movie to convince users that's worth it paying a monthly subscription. I should've been paid to spend my time watching this
Stranger Things (2016)
Pretty good despite some storyline flaws and all the adults acting like dumb
It's no doubt one nice tv show to sit and binge watch. However, I feel the quality and consistency of the story and some characters development have been neglected more and more in season 3. Look at the sheriff's performance, in season 3 he just became this reckless and annoying character trying to be funny and screaming all the time - it's like all the adults need to be comic but it seems forced and unnatural. Season 1 was funny and yet more well balanced with great performances.
And some of the dialogues seem to be there just to fill out the blank, pretty lame.
From all the characters, the kids performance are the ones that keep me watching Strager Things - they are doing a great job and it's rewarding to follow them growing.
Finally, I wish they would explore more of the 80's cultural references - as it's, in my opinion, what brings the nostalgia feeling and make this tv show such a success.
Extraordinary performance, intense and touching story - a portrait of this complicated and beautiful thing called life
Life is a hardship that each person goes through in a different way - for some, it bares the unsustainable day by day dilemma of not living your true self, in its unique and unapologetically way, regardless of anything or anyone else.
This movie, to me, does not try to represent all the transgender people who go through the sex reassignment surgery - it tells a story of one individual, Lara, and her struggles, passion, hope and fear towards her physical and emotional self-expression as a trans woman. It's not an easy movie to watch. Entertaining is not a word to describe it. And yet it's worth every single minute, even with some flaws and imperfections. The most important take away for me is to be more empathetic towards others.
Bravo performance by the leading actor.
The Edge of Democracy (2019)
For those with a functioning brain and critical thinking, the obvious: it was an elite coup in Brazil!
To complete the veracity of the FACTS shown in this documentary, weeks after its release, The Intercept led by the reputable journalist Glenn Greenwald (the one who exposed the American surveillance programs and won a Pulitzer prize for his work) released an article based on a conversation between the Judge Sergio Moro and the prosecutors of Lula where they basically collude to put him in jail without any proof and to avoid his re-election.
Combined with this brilliant documentary, you can get a full spectrum of the political scandal going on in Brazil.
It's disgusting and yet not surprising to see many of Bolsonaro's supporters in this IMDB page trying to damage the credibility of this documentary without any valid argument other than their hatred and ignorance. You, Bolsomions, there's still time to use your brain to get out of your dumbness and think. You're contributing to destroy an amazing country.
I Am Mother (2019)
A forgettable 2 hours of boredom leading to some plot twists
Yes, I get the daughter is being prepared to take the role as "the mother", and that the mysterious woman is actually the first baby experiment. However, what other interesting points can this movie deliver? The storyline is boring with lazy and predictable dialogue. The acting isn't great either, the daughter who has been raised by a robot, acts like a dumb teenager. Perhaps the robot (mother) acting is the most convincing.
"I am mother" may have all the special effects and plot twists of all, but it fails miserably to keep it interesting and suspenseful, and it just becomes a forgettable 2 hours movie.
The Perfection (2018)
It could've been a good movie but ended up in a PERFECT example of what a bad movie is.
Well, the problem here is not the crazy girls' revenge, or the dull plot twist - it's ironically the lack of perfectionism in each scene after the first 40min, the lazy and senseless dialogues, the messy storyline. It could've been a good movie and end up in a perfect example of what a bad movie is.
Death Note (2017)
How to ruin a fantastic anime...
How to ruin a fantastic anime?.
Create an American version of it, with terrible acting performance, poor storyline, and try to sell this fans who understand the concept of this epic anime.
The Rain (2018)
Waste of time: poor acting, not enough special effects, horrible storylines.
The Pass (2016)
Boring. Poor acting. Could've been way better.
The only good part of Russell Tovey in this movie is his shirtless and bulge scenes. His acting gets annoying and repetitive, shallow and nothing meaningful to offer. The story is interesting if it was well played and directed.
The slightest exciting part of this movie starts at 1h after the beginning.
Twelve Monkeys (1995)
A brilliant storyline. A breathtaking thriller. Three spectacular characters
Twelve Monkeys, a1995 scifi movie that proves that producing an epic scifi is beyond any special effect or technology capabilities.
The storyline is engaging, it makes the all the characters have a real role in the movie and not merely supporters for the main character, Brad Pitt is indeed brilliant, explaining why he got an Oscar nomination. However, in my humble opinion, the acting chemistry between Bruce Willis and the talented Madeleine Stowe make this a memorable movie.
Even if you get the plot of this time traveling masterpiece before its end, each minute ahead is worth it your time.
Kinda like a copy and paste of Power Rangers
It's fun and like a copy and paste of Power Rangers with a higher budget and more visual effects.
Power Rangers had a better storyline though. Aquaman is totally forgettable
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
These critics' souls are blind. This movie is pure joy!
I waited almost 2 months to come to the theater to watch this movie because I thought it wouldn't be worth it my money and time based on the critics. Well, I've learned my lesson not to rely solely on what these IMDB selected magazine critiques say about any movie.
Bohemian Rhapsody is a fountain of pure joy and love to revive such a classic band and life story combining music, art, pain, love, fear, queerness, talent... Queens was in its blast way before I was even born. Freddie Mercury life inspires me to live the fullest of my life, with truth and love. And this movie just brings it all to new generations, and this humane art becomes atemporal.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Cheesy and predictable
The storyline is terrible, more of the same: Americans are all angels and Muslims are all bad... ugh! The dialogues are cheesy. Nothing exciting to see here. After 4 episodes I just regret to have wasted my time...
The Revival (2017)
Poor performances and stupid storyline
Nothing new to see here. A frustrated wanna be drama about how terrible it is to be a gay man. When are these directors gonna learn that Brokeback Mountain isn't only a movie about a gay tragedy that can be copied again and again?
Yep, in real life the LGBTQ community is still facing so many challenges to freely love (or in someplaces stay alive). And also there're so many beautiful stories to be told. Both ways, where the strength to fight for the right to love is way more interesting than becoming a "gay killer" ~ oh gosh, how creative.
Plus, the performances in this movie are simply terrible. It looks like the evangelical church chose the cast :^)
2020 Nostradamus (2017)
Don't even play start
Spent precious 5 min watching this garbage because it was highlighted on primevideo
Baisers cachés (2016)
A touching and heartwarming movie
My expectations were pretty low when I fisrt found this movie, I hadn't heard about it and it seems not many people have either. To my surprise, it's a beautiful and so well done movie. Yes, it's about the drama of being gay, coming out, being accepted, finding love... however, Hidden Kisses (French: Baisers cachés) tells us a story of two boys, at first focusing in one of them, and as the movie goes around, the second one is wisely included in the script - and all you can feel is your inner wish for them to be ok, to be loved, to love.
Plus the movie brings awareness of the fact that homophobia and bullying are still present in the French schools, and surely in many other countries. And it needs to be discussed, there could be no space for hate and discrimination against love, specifically LGBTQ love.
Kudos for the director and specially the cast, great story!
LOVE IS FOR EVERYONE!
Worth it your time during breakfast!
It's a cool docuseries dealing with current topics affecting us as society. While it doesn't go deep into the subject, it brings a brief and interesting debate about each topic.
Devilman: Crybaby (2018)
Don't try to find reason within this epic anime, just enjoy the endless power of imagination that comes from animes
After watching all the 10 episodes, it took me 5 days to realize how good this tv show is when I just ignored the rationale that my brain was seeking. We are so used to these amazing twisted plot in other tv shows that we often forget to appreciate the simple imaginary and creative things, that's what the Devilman: Crybaby brought to me. As an adult (28), I just let myself go back to my imaginary child self, where I'd create stories and don't give a "duck" if that make sense or not.
And yet, this tv show let me be taken away by a hopeless sentiment towards humanity. Then, now I just look at it and appreciate this kind of art. Animes are my child imagination coming to life, if I let it be.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...
Damn, it made me laugh at first, then from there it's a rollercoaster of emotions. It made me cry more than onions, seriously.
Bradley Cooper is fantastic, and so talented. Lady Gaga is a legend, she gives me chills all the time her character sings.
I will watch again, and sit in my couch waiting for the Oscars 2019.
We are all humans...
Laerte-se brings a fresh philosophical questioning of what we are in our gender identity and how we perceive ourselves and others in these roles of masculine and feminine. All of this in a beautiful directed documentary that shows Laerte's discovery and honest thoughts of her body. While Laerte's impressive talent as a cartoonist is perfectly explored throughout the movie.
