Crop And Save
A rather rambling plot of five perfectly beautiful people (3 men & 2 women) living on a Hawaiian Island. Only one seems to have a job. The rest spend their days playing without any focus or direction. And then there is a recluse living in a castle deep in the tropical forest.
Their paths eventually cross and comes to no good. Then the movie is over.
But the actors are all eye candy!!!
Sword of Trust (2019)
Worth watching for 2 of the actors
Jillian Bell and Jon Bass sparkle in this rather haphazard story involving an old sword of questionable value and history.
This movie is easy to overlook due to it's quirky plot but please give it a chance as once you get involved you will stick with it. There is an overtone of danger sprinkled with understated comedy.
Indie movies always have something to offer to keep your attention. And this is one!
Worth it for Diane Keaton
A cute movie for the "Boomer generation" to wake up to their declining years!
Here we have a variety of characters - all in their 60's plus years - looking back and trying to grasp onto their lost youth ambitions. Their early years were squeezed into the changing social structure/ideals in America and some went with it while others were quelled by the traditional obligations of that time.
Diane Keaton always captures the camera and her character as Martha certainly sends a message to everyone facing her dilemma.
The White Door (2006)
Not too much to say
I really can't find much to write about this short subject other than it would have been taken as "art cinema" in the early 1960's had it been filmed in black & white.
Today (even though it was made in 2006) it still seems 40 years late and the impact or message or emotional response is - ho-hum!
Good intentions but a bore
The set-up is great - a despondent dentist who feels lost because of his broken marriage, he feels like a failed parent, and his dental practice offers no satisfaction - begins to stalk a patient who he sees as the "man with the perfect life". This action becomes a big mistake.
But the path Director/Actor: Greg Kinner takes to tell this story is so full of holes and ridiculous situations the story never reaches it's comic goal and quickly descends into a goofball story trying to make a valuable statement on life.
The Greek persona never becomes remotely convincing.
The Upside (2017)
Couldn't suspend disbelief
The only believable character in this entire movie is Nicole Kidman. Otherwise I found every other character completely unbelievable in this mixed up plot. This flick drifts between being a melodrama, a comedy, a drama, an 'art film', etc.! Not one intention being fully achieved.
And personally I found it very difficult to accept a fabulously rich man would hire one person to be on call 24/7 as his personal care aid. That alone requires a real stretch of disbelief. It would have had more believability if the disabled millionaire had one favorite caretaker with whom he connected more closely.
The Public (2018)
An emotional ride for the vewer
Director/Writer: Emilio Estevez has created a real look into the sociopolitical plight of the homeless and the situations they must face when freezing cold temperatures force them to seek shelter when not enough shelters exist.
Emilio Estevez gives a truly steller performance as Stuart Goodson the library worker that shows a heart felt empathy for those stranded in the cold. And in doing so he puts his life into the public view.
This film is well worth watching because it brings to light a true problem. My only objection to this story is that no women are included! There is one at movies start but she disappears quickly. The balance of the plot includes no women! There are also homeless females facing the same problems as the males. Why this is left out is a mystery to me.
Family Pictures (2019)
But very watchable!
This Lifetime melodrama fits their usual program pattern with adequate acting and - at times - a captivating script. The plot centers around how two families, one on the east coast and one on the west coast, suddenly fine their lives in a most unexpected tangle facing the same situation.
The plot is very predictable and one scene you can figure out long before it happens. But still this made for TV movie holds it's own with an unexpected character twist.
The Hummingbird Project (2018)
Kim Nguyen's film about a race for the quickest transfer of information is an allegorical story of how we can change how we live but life and nature itself exist on it's own rules.
Here we are given Eva Torres who is winning the tech game on Wall Street investment info. Then Vincent & Anton who are determined to beat Eva at her own game through a very complex high tech plan. Then there's the Amish who live their lives without modern technology.
In this story all three come to cross purposes and Vincent is the first to learn that life has it's own rules and the pursuit of technology changes nothing. And even those who reject technology suffer life equally.
This is a thinking persons film.
Easy and simple
Tenured is an easy to watch situation comedy of a broken hearted grade school teacher who looses focus of his teaching responsibilities while trying to win back his wife who has left him.
He is tasked with directing the school play which gives him the opportunity to have his students act out what dissolved his marriage. In doing this his students learn a life lesson and the other parents see themselves in his story.
Sounds like a drama - but it is not! This sweet film is full of charming goofy but loveable characters that give you more smiles than laughter.
The Loudest Voice (2019)
The first episode is captivating. I hope the next episode is equally good. A good summer watch to look forward to.
I have never been a Russell Crowe fan, but here he is firing on all eight cylinders as the conniving and toxic Roger Ailes changing the cable news landscape in the USA. I think this series will be a winner start to finish.
July 28, 2019 - up to episode 5 and everything is still top notch. An excellent series.
August 12, 2019 - Finished this series and it was a first class production with an excellent script and each actor became their character! This must be R. Crowe's best performance in his career. Every episode was captivating to watch.
Framing John DeLorean (2019)
Famous man becomes a bore
I wish this movie had not been an hour and fifty minutes long! The last fifty minutes becomes boring because it is easy for the viewer to see where the story leads.
Plus the dramatic acting adds nothing to the historical facts in this mans life. If you don't know who John DeLorean was this movie may be informative but still this movie is just too long because, as stated above, you can see the sorry end way in advance.
Wally Got Wasted (2019)
Funny, silly, adventurous story
"Weekend at Bernie's" it is not!!!
Same concept, yes. But "Wally Got Wasted" expands on this idea and succeeds in creating a funny lite comedy.
For nonsense style movie lovers with goofy but likeable characters, this movie is just the thing. Nothing violent or grotesque to challenge the viewer. Plus the adventure to do 'what with Wally' is entertaining in itself.
The three main characters carry this story without letting the pace sag and that keeps it fun!
Spin the Wheel (2019)
Slow - very slow
Cut this show to 30 minutes and it will be fun.
As it is now it's a pettifogging bore.
Dax Shepard looked lost on stage. I think he knows when you become a game show host your acting career is on the down side of the curve.
Holey Moley (2019)
Hokey Pokey Cow pile
I got thru, struggled thru, and nearly became mentally ill watching the first 30 minutes of this dreadful mess!
Honestly watching people dance in a field of cow piles would be more entertaining. Whoever thought mixing the old MXC tv show with mini-golf was hard pressed for a funny idea. It failed!
I actually feel sorry for Rob Riggle.
A winner for Seth Green
A beautifully photographed movie of a man dealing with despondency and heartsickness in a land that offers beauty and a place of complete bliss and delight and peace. But he cannot enjoy this because his world has been cracked open by infidelity.
Seth Green gives a glorious performance as 'Brandon the betrayed husband' and Beckin Meyer is superb as 'Dan the supportive friend'. Together they try to enjoy this exotic trip that Brandon had planned to take with his wife.
Macaulay Culkin shines as 'Ian the free spirit' in this story of one man's struggle to come to terms with his fractured life. Ian brings to Brandon the very jocularity Brandon needs.
A beautiful movie to watch and a thoughtful story to take in.
The Mix (2017)
Actually a rather compelling plot line with perfectly fine actors and script but at movies end the viewer is left with no conclusion.
First there's the cookie recipe that everyone loves, then the kidnapping, then the battle of wit's as to who will win, then it ends.
There's all this tension buildup and no payoff as to what happens to our characters in this story. And the twist at the end is yet another unfinished element in the story. Nothing here makes me want to seek out possible sequel to this movie.
Wanda Sykes: Not Normal (2019)
Brilliant ! !
Wanda Sykes is the finest comedian in America!
When she puts on a one woman show you can always bet it's a winner.
She see's the greater truth in life and because we know it's true, it's funny.
Wild Honey (2017)
Another indie hit !
Writer/Director: Francis Stokes, has a truly delightful winner with this light hearted comedy of adults facing their misdirected lives and coming to terms with themselves.
Everyone in the cast seems natural in their role which helps this simple but fun story progress too quickly. I adore Rusty Schwimmer as Gabby deciding to break out of her dead end rut and pursue the person that sparked her passion. Her adventure from frozen winter Chicago to sunny warm L.A. will keep you involved and caring for her to find happiness.
You can't go wrong catching this film!
Shines on stage!
Miranda may have lost her most excellent show "Haters Back Off" but she shines even more brilliant on stage. Colleen Ballinger is a gold mine of talent.
I greatly enjoyed this live recording made at the Kennedy Center. Go Miranda go! I only wish I could have seen it live.
And to all those naysayers when it comes to Miranda Sings all I need to say in reply is - "Haters Back Off" !!!
Go Go Crazy (2011)
Deserves a 10 because ....
..... it is pure silliness from start to finish !
The drag queen MC keeps the pace going with her smart ass comments and the judges are a show themselves.
Don't expect high comedy because the plot is all just for fun and each actor knows it. A light comedy just for laffs. No deep meanings here.
Knock Down the House (2019)
An education while watching
There's one truth in this film - If you come from a economically minimal background and want to become a member of Congress, you will have to work your ass off to just get heard. While the wealthy just buy their way through the door.
She is to be admired both for her intelligence and her drive to be a voice for millions of Americans.
A must see documentary!
Paid Off with Michael Torpey (2018)
More than just a game show
This show has purpose and focus! Its not just contestants trying to rack up the most money. They are playing to pay their student debt.
And that is the focus of this show - to help ease the pressure of a life saddled by debt because they wanted an education.
Newly Single (2017)
Director: Adam Christian Clark, Writer: Adam Christian Clark, Stars: Adam Christian Clark and he knows how to present himself in the best light with this film.
First I must say this is not a bad movie even though at movies end you are left feeling something important has been left out of the plot! This film begins as it ends. Astor is a jogger, he is jogging at stories start and jogging at stories end. But he is jogging in the street with traffic. He could be smashed at any moment. He uses people almost in the same manner. He navigates a course into their lives and dares them to run him down.
What is Adam Christian Clark trying to say in this story?
It's Bruno! (2019)
U must watch right thru to end
In my opinion "It's Bruno" will be on the fast track to fame. Even though each episode is under 15 minutes each character shines in their roles!
Bruno is the four legs that carries this story. He's really not the focus of each episode. It's Malcolm's quest for Bruno! And there the story expands to keep us entertained.
