Bond Ratings: Ranking the Bonds
7 people | Public
Seven actors have portrayed Ian Fleming's iconic super spy, 007, James Bond in film. It's been thrilling, entertaining and great fun. It is in the spirit of fun, I have ranked the Bonds from least to best!
The Best films of the current decade (2010 - Present).
28 titles | Public
Several excellent films have been made starting with the film year for 2010, and a new list reflecting the great start is warranted. Here are the best films from 2010 to the present day. Obviously, a work in progress, to be modified as new great films are released.
My Favorite Films by Year from 1930.
89 titles | Public
My favorite films by year, from 1930 to present day, without regard to awards or critical acclaim; just my personal favorites. In three cases, 1943, 1963 and 2005, the "year" is counted for purposes of this list as the Oscar consideration year and may not coincide with the actual release date. Enjoy!
The Top 146 films of all time
146 titles | Public
Listing the greatest 143 films of all time is a daunting, but rewarding task, and of course, highly subjective and personal. Nevertheless, here are mine and in order. I have augmented the original 100 to a total of 143 after reflection and in light of the wonderful film releases from 2010, 2011 2012, and 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Enjoy!
Oscar Oversights: The Best Acting performance for the year, not nominated for an acting Oscar.
85 people | Public
This is a fun list of the best acting performance that failed to garner an acting Oscar nomination, whether lead or supporting, male or female, etc. It's by year from 1934 to the present, in descending order from the current year. It's just a fun project to identify one acting performance that may have been overlooked for a nomination. Not saying should have won, just contended for a nomination. The debate for who should have won is another discussion and another list. This list is dedicated to the great Humphrey Bogart and his performance in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (1948), the most egregious and mystifying snub in Oscar history. Enjoy!!
Best Supporting Actor by Year (1934 - Present)
84 people | Public
My choices for the best performance by a male actor in a supporting role by year, from 1934 to the present date, in descending order from 2016.
The Best 29 films of Tom Hanks.
30 titles | Public
My favorite of the actors of today is the wonderful, likeable, wildly talented Tom Hanks. Since the early 80's, Tom Hanks has created many indelible film characterizations and has been consistently excellent in every project. Moreover, Tom Hanks has made excellent decisions in his choice of roles, and creates for the screen one great film after another. Here are 29 of his very best.
My Favorite Performances By Year, 1931 to the present.
87 people | Public
This is a list of my favorite performances by year, for each year in descending order, from the present, back through 1931. It is especially rewarding as the acting role is cited irrespective of awards or nominations or even critical recognition, and is further not limited to a category of lead or supporting, male or female, small or large. In this sense, it is extremely liberating to just recall one great, haunting, standout performance for each year, starting with the current year and going back through 1931. The only stress is choosing one of many notable performances. These are my favorites and not meant as a any further commentary aside from what was pleasing to myself. Hopefully, the reader will enjoy! (Still working on the comments section).
Author/Actor: Famous writers in film.
23 people | Public
This is a list of gifted actors, who have portrayed famous writers in history, in film from the 30's through the present day. It is intended as a tribute to the writers and to the actors who portrayed them.
Oscar Oversights: Best Picture Not Nominated, By Year
88 titles | Public
This is a list of the best movies that failed to garner a nomination in the Best Picture category, by year for every year, 1930 to the present, in descending order. Quite obviously, some years featured several wonderful films not nominated because of the sheer number of "outstanding films" for a particular year, e.g. 1997, 1999, 1955, 1959, 1939. Some years have but a few "best picture caliber" films. So, it's a fun and interesting project to select just one for each year from 1930 to the present. This not to say that any of these should have won Best Picture, but rather "might" have contended for a nomination. This list is inspired by the curious year of 1981, which featured three excellent and best picture worthy films, not even nominated: Body Heat, Ragtime, and Prince of the City. Mystifying. Enjoy!
