Blood, Guts, Gore, and More!
My personal favorite part(spoiler): when Rambo purees this guy from point blank with a .50 cal mounted turret. They got it right this time, by not trying too hard to give it a story, they let the action do the talking. When i say this is the bloodiest movie i've ever seen, I mean it. This violence is not stylized like kill bill or sin city, this is highly realistic violence. The basic story is similar to First Blood Part II, sending Rambo to rescue some weaklings or whatever and he kills a whole bunch of people on the way. Believe it or not there is a moral in this one. (spoiler) In the end when the leader of the missionaries bashes that Burmese Soldier's head in with a rock, it shows the total transformation from the beginning when he told Rambo that killing is never OK. It shows the loss of humanity in war. OK i actually just read that in some Stallone interview, i didn't actually get any moral from this movie except that "killing is as easy as breathing." Heck yea.
4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
I liked the first fantastic four. It was pretty cool and there was some good action. But this one was lame. The silver surfer should have brought epic destruction onto humanity instead he helped the fagtastic four bring down whats his face. We didn't even get to see galactus really. Jessica Alba wasn't even that hot in this. She had this really blonde hair and really blue colored contacts or something and she just didn't look that good. The director tried to bring acting into this too. And that just doesn't work with this kind of movie. This movie is like every other marvel comic book movie. I'd place it as better than the hulk, but worse than spider man (the first one, not the crappy third one).
She's the Man (2006)
If chicks flicks are your thing
My friend loved this movie, he told me he saw it 3 times in theaters. I thought, hey thats cool, why don't i see it? I watched it on demand. I considered turning it off at some points. I don't see how you could watch this movie twice let alone three times, even watching it for the first time it was predictable enough. Although i must admit Sebastian coming back from england a day early threw me off a little. If semi-predictable chick flicks are your thing however then you'll probably like this movie. It similar to Shakespears' 12th night. I wouldn't describe it as "Rolling in the aisles laughing" either. If you don't like chick flicks, like myself, than this movie(especially the end) will make you cringe and go into withdrawal, forcing you to throw in 'fight club' after the movie finishes. But if they are your thing, good for you, you'll probably like this.
Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005)
I saw this movie when it was called jumanji
I saw this movie when it was called Jumaniji. While it is a interesting story it has already been done, and done better. Its only redeeming quality in the name of originality was it is set in outer space instead of the jungle. I feel like, however, that the quality of jumanji was better. you don't have to be clairvoyant to predict how the movie goes. Predictable and unoriginal.
This movie was geared to a younger audience so it cannot be critiqued as heavily. For a kids movie it has surprisingly good special effects and acting as far as I am concerned. As for children who were too little to see Jumanji, well, then they should see that, but if they are too lazy to go to net flicks then see this.
The Shaggy Dog (2006)
An arbitrary judgment:
The shaggy dog is more or less what you would expect from a movie entitled: the shaggy dog, with Tim Allen in it. This is the kind of movie you see when your flying from Quito to Miami. Thats where i saw it. On the four hour plane ride there isn't much to do except watch the movie or sleep. In this case, i should have chosen to sleep.
I must admit, the movie is targeted for children and the younger audience to which it must be more entertaining and comical. You will most likely get what you think you will of this movie, especially if you don't think much of it. Its an original idea, but not a very good one. So to Tim Allen i say: Points for originality, but don't do it again!
24 cult following
IF YOU DON'T LIKE JACK BAUER, I DON'T LIKE YOU!!! Seriously though 24 is a suspenseful thriller that will get your heart pumping. Not just another arbitrary fox show you see commercials for and then never watch. The plot is like a roller coaster and you never know what the hell is going to happen next. I'll admit that through the seasons some things get repetitive and are a little stretched like the inability of CTU to prevent moles in their agency, do they do background checks at all? Seriously though 24 is explosive, unpredictable, and unique. Every Monday form 8-9 is like waking up on Christmas eve. I have never met anyone that doesn't like this show. If you plan to watch 24 make sure you watch beginning from the first episode!! you may get lost if you randomly jump into the season! Then you wont be able to know how good this show is!
