It's pretty bad
This film tells the story of a bartender who encounter strange happenings after finding a phone.
Even with all the violence and gore, the film is boring. It delivers no thrill or suspense. From the extended bar fight scenes in the beginning, it can be seen the film is pretty bad already. I don't know how this film can get quite a few big names to star in it.
The Laundromat (2019)
Not as intense as I hoped
This film tells the story of the downfall of a well known accounting company.
The plot summary makes you think that the widow is the one who caused the downfall, but the film doesn't portray it this way prominently until the very end. The story is told from the viewpoint of the accountants, which makes it less sympathetic towards the viewers. It is not very engaging or intense either. It is technically well made, but just not very interesting to watch. If it concentrates on the widow fighting for injustice, it would have been a great drama.
A solid thriller
This film tells the story of a man whose family members go missing in a hospital.
The film is well made, with good cinematography and lighting. Sam Worthington is good as a desperate father as well. The place is slightly slow, but it is still an enjoyable solid thriller.
Batman's gonna have a problem
This film tells how the Joker comes to be the villain he is. The problem is that it is so effective and compelling, that I really empathise with the Joker and his horrible life experiences. Batman's father is portrayed as the villain, and the Joker is the victim. It juxtaposes good and bad. How is the next Batman film going to work, when
Batman's now the son of the bad guy?
Gemini Man (2019)
Just sit back and relax
This film tells the story of an assassin who has met him mortal enemy.
The film itself isn't bad to look at, as most scenes are shot in beautiful locations. However, this is exactly a problem that bugs me. If Will Smith is being hunted, why would he be in the open, on balcnies and next to windows locations all the time? He makes himself an easy target. There are a few more non sensical scenes, such as the final emotional climax that the villain just stands there and not do anything to resist.
Aside from these annoying moments, the motorcycle chase scene is really quite underwhelming. It would have looked great in a 1960's James Bond film, but not in a new blockbuster. It lacks thrill and speed.
Other than these annoying scenes, the film offers good entertainment if you just sit back and relax.
Charlie Says (2018)
An engaging story
This film tells the story of three women who are jailed for murdering strangers.
Instead of drilling the details of the murder, the plot concentrates on the brain washing done by Charles Manson and its devastating effects on the women. The result is an engaging story of how the women get to the brainwashed state, which most people will struggle to understand.
I don't feel it
The music is good in the film, but I just don't feel it. The non linear narrative confuses me a lot, and I don't quite understand the story. It doesn't quite help that I find it quite boring due to the slow pace.
Killers Anonymous (2019)
My interest got killed
This film tells the story of a group of killers who gather around and share their issues.
The idea sounds funny, but the film is simply not funny. It is not thrilling, suspenseful or compelling either. It just features people talking in a room, with not much happening. By the time something happens, it's already too late to change my opinion. In addition, the things that happen at the end is rather unbelievable and quite possibly ridiculous, that it just kills off any remaining credibility of the film.
A Rainy Day in New York (2019)
An enjoyable star studded film
This film tells the story of a young couple's strangely eventful day in New York.
This film is Woody Allen in the sense that it still contains a lot of medical terms and many rapid dialogs. However, it is also not very Woody Allen because it doesn't feature prominently anxious characters. It is a fun, uneventfully eventful film, until the big confessional scene from the mother. That scene elevates the film a lot, in my opinion. Elle Fanning is great in the film, as her character appears truly innocent and very nice most of the time. I enjoyed this star studded film.
What They Had (2018)
A brutally realistic film
This film tells the story of a family struggling to cope with the impact of dementia.
The poster makes me think it's a romantic comedy, but it is almost the polar opposite of that. It is quite a sad story because it tells a heart wrenching story. The portrayal of dementia is brutally realistic. It is sad to watch, and it will touch many viewers for sure.
London Fields (2018)
Someone's perverted sexual fantasy
This film tells the story of a writer who gets inspired by her neighbour of his flat swap.
Seriously, this film is so sexually charged that it gets me uncomfortable. It basically is the vehicle to objectify Amber Heard, thereby fulfilling someone's perverted sexual fantasy. It tries a bit of noir, but it does not succeed. Instead, it is less than engaging and does not offer suspense or mystery as intended.
Late Night (2019)
It may appeal to some, but be warned
This film tells the story of a comedy show host and her new recruit.
I can see why this story may appeal to some, as it is a kind of underdog story. However, the boss is just too unlikable, that it makes the whole film hard to like. This film doesn't entertain, so be warned.
Modern and relatable
I am not familiar with the story of Hamlet, but this story still captivates me. I think it is quite a beautiful story with a sad twist. Many films set in the old times feel very out of touch with the modern times, but this film feels modern and relatable to the modern times. I enjoyed watching it.
I probably won't remember it after a while
This film tells the story of a policeman and an Uber driver who go on an operation.
The film is light hearted and has a quite a few funny moments. Got exactly this reason, I probably won't remember it after a while.
The Art of Self-Defense (2019)
A lot darker than I expected
This film tells the story of a man who learns karate for self defense.
The film starts off quite innocent, but soon descends into morbid darkness which I have not expected. It is so dark that I worry it might give karate a bad name! It is disturbing, but engaging as well.
The Wolf Hour (2019)
A non sensical bore
This film tells the story of a woman who locks herself in her home.
What I can tell you, the film is definitely not a thriller. There is no thrill or suspense. In fact, it is full of boredom. The story is not engaging, not captivating and not sensical. If she is so scared of the outside, I struggle to find it sensical that she keeps the windows wide open. The story doesn't go anywhere either. It is just really boring.
The Parts You Lose (2019)
A bit slow but it's still engaging
This film tells the story of a young boy who befriends a dangerous fugitive.
The story is slow but it is engaging. It tells the sadness of the boy in detail, and it is particularly heart breaking to see what happens to him in the end. It is a film that makes you feel for the boy and the fugitive.
Semper Fi (2019)
This film tells the story of a group of soldiers who help each other out, good times or bad.
The story is surprisingly engaging. I thought it was just an action film, but it actually has a lot of emotional elements in it. Cal's guilt and trauma are well portrayed, and it makes the characters very human. The story is touching and makes me sympathise with Cal and his brother. I think this film deserves to be seen by more people.
This film tells the story of a man who brings down two people involved a drug deal.
It tells a captivating story. It is engaging and makes you feel sorry for all the main characters. I enjoyed watching it.
In the Tall Grass (2019)
A disturbing and suspenseful film
The story seems to be pretty simple, and I was left wondering how the film can go on for 80 minutes. The story gets a little more complex as time goes on, more thrilling, suspenseful and more disturbing. I enjoyed it.
Missing Link (2019)
This film tells the story of an explorer who discovers a yeti in the new world.
The characters are not very cute, but the beauty is inside the characters. I like Adelina the best, as she is strong, tough but very likable. It is an OK story, which inspires people to care for each other. However it is not very memorable.
Too offensive for me
This film tells the story of some dolls who decide to venture outside their town.
There are many things right about this film. The palette is very colourful, the songs are upbeat, and the characters are cute (even the ugly ones). However, I couldn't get into the story because it just comes across as too discriminatory and offensive. Even though one knows that the ending will ultimately be a happy one, the process of getting there is too hurtful for me to enjoy it.
Wonder Park (2019)
Entertaining for children
This film tells the story of a young girl who has an amusement park in her imagination.
The film is probably for rather young children. It surely is colourful, and imaginative. It has appropriate adventures, which keeps children entertained. The story is a little thin for adults though, so I find it a little boring.
Les crevettes pailletées (2019)
Fun and feel good
This film is a fun and feel good film. It is very cliched, with some very loud queens doing the gayest stuff possible. It is funny to see them beside a supposedly (but not very) homophobic athlete. You won't see intense water polo matches in the film, even though the guys are in the water a lot. After all, it is a comedy and not a water polo film!
Blinded by the Light (2019)
This film tells the story of a young man who finds himself and break out of an oppressive environment through music.
The story is really beautiful. I can relate to Javed in many ways, so I feel very touched by the film. It is a film that really connects with viewers.
