At an abandoned mental health facility, a young couple stumble upon the body of an elderly man in the old hospital wing strapped to a trolley with electrodes connected to his temples. It would seem he was the victim of electrocution.
On the edge of Brokenwood sits an abandoned asylum named Brokenwood Downes. Now derelict, the spooky buildings provide a great hideout for local teenagers. When one young couple stumble upon the body of an elderly man in the old hospital wing strapped to a gurney with electrodes connected to his temples, the Detectives must work to find out who he is and why he was killed.
Portrayals of people with mental illness unfortunate
I love Brokenwood and this episode is much like the others. But it should not have been made.for at least two reasons. First -- it makes fun of the mentally ill. Stigma is a problem for these persons. Those who don't understand too often look down on or make jokes about them, Dark Angel just adds to the problem. The second issue is that the portrayal plays to stereotypes of the mentally ill. I've met many people with mental illness and none are anything like the characters in the episode.
