Lady Astor briefly refers to her earlier career "on the catwalk". The real Lady Astor, as Bronwen Pugh, was a supermodel of the 1950s, one of the most elegant and beautiful women in Europe; her marriage to Lord Astor, who was 23 years her senior, led immediately to her retirement from modeling. She stayed with him after the Profumo Affair, always stoutly insisting that he had been a faithful and loving husband and that the allegations made against him by journalists and by Mandy Rice-Davies were lies. He died in 1966 of a heart attack, aged 59; it was commonly said that the scandal, from which he never recovered, was the cause. She never remarried and died in 2017. See more
We see Profumo writing the address on the envelope of a letter to Stephen Ward, and then we see Ward receiving it. The two letters, though obviously the same handwriting, do not match, especially as regards the presence or absence of flourishes on capital letters. Also, the postal districts are different: Profumo uses the correct one for Wimpole Mews, W1, but the envelope that Ward receives shows N1. See more
