While they watch over Caden during his recovery from the stroke, flashbacks show key aspects of Max and Kathryn's relationship in the latter stages of their marriage. With Caden, they learn that the stroke has caused some brain damage, which will affect the way he may interact with them. They also try to learn more about his life in its entirety in his generally closed relationship with both of them. Max goes to extreme measures in many aspects of this phase of Caden's life. Kathryn and Scott begin to spend more time together whenever she can fit the time in-between her hospital vigils. Max has unexpected follow-up meetings with both Angela Howard and Prime Minister Zakari. And Nick and Maggie hit an unexpected roadblock in their investigation. Written by Huggo

Did You Know?

Lauren Elgood: [Talking to Nick] My mum brought me up alone. She was a cleaner. When I was a teenager, I asked if I could help out, because I needed some money. She told the people she worked for that I baked the best cakes. I don't know if they were the best, but they were pretty good. Soon, I was selling cakes to a bunch of different families. Episode 2

When episode 2 began I was slightly confused as to why Kathryn and Max were fighting over custody of Caden. I then realised this was a flashback scene but Richard Gere's hair was still grey. You have to look at Kathryn's change of hairstyle.

Max had the resources to win the custody battle. Kathryn and Max had lost a daughter and she used drugs. However Caden grew up damaged using drugs, using escorts. He had an inability to love.

Now Caden after his brain operation might never be the same again. Kathryn is determined to care for him, Max bugs the hospital room. He wants to be in control of events.

We learn more about Max. His ruthlessness and the parallels to Rupert Murdoch are easy to see. Max came into the UK with new money but purchased an established newspaper on its knees. Max courts the rich and the powerful. When the PM sympathises with Max over Caden and reveals his own problems with his own son. It gives Max something to exploit.

Max's people are also aware that Nick and Maggie are probing the death of the private investigator.

This was a more conventional episode after the slightly off centre opening. The focus is more on Max and Kathryn and their past.
