Stephen King to Write New Last Chapter for CBS All Access’ Adaptation of The Stand, Four Cast Members Officially Announced

Announced earlier this year, CBS All Access has now officially revealed the first casting news (confirming earlier reports) for Josh Boone's limited series adaptation of Stephen King's epic apocalyptic novel The Stand, and they've also revealed that King will write a new final chapter for the event series that won't be from the book, so even longtime fans of The Stand won't know what to expect in the new ending.

As announced in the press release below, James Marsden will play Stu Redman, Amber Heard will portray Nadine Cross, Odessa Young will play Frannie Goldsmith, and Henry Zaga will portray Nick Andros. James Marsden (Westworld), as we previously reported was in talks, has closed his deal for a lead role in The Stand, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel at CBS All Access. Also starring with him are Amber Heard (Aquaman), Odessa Young (Assassination Nation) and Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) in the limited event series from CBS Television Studios. The streaming service also announced that King will write the last chapter of the series, providing a new coda that won’t be found in the book. “Stephen King writing continuation to The Stand, I can’t wait for that,” said Julie McNamara, Evp of Original Content, CBS All Access, during the streaming service’s presentation at TCA.

CBS All Access has set four of the leads for its upcoming series “The Stand.”

Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, “The Stand” will star James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young and Henry Zaga in main roles. The streaming platform has also revealed that the prolific author himself will write the final episode of the series, providing a “new coda” that goes beyond the book. The announcements were made by Julie McNamara, executive vice president of original content for All Access at CBS’ summer Television Critics Association presentation.

The Stand” presents an apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old other Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors.

Phyllida Lloyd’s ‘Herself’ Adds Cast, Cornerstone Boards Sales (Exclusive)

Cornerstone Films has boarded sales on “Herself,” the female-driven movie from “Mamma Mia!” and “The Iron Lady” helmer Phyllida Lloyd.

Irish actor Clare Dunne, who starred in Lloyd’s all-female theater production of “Henry IV,” will play a single mother determined to build her own home with a free online plan, rebuilding her life in the process. Dunne co-wrote the screenplay with Malcolm Campbell (“What Richard Did”).

Harriet Walter (“Rocketman”) and Conleth Hill (“Game of Thrones”) have also joined the cast.

The Favourite” producer Element Pictures developed the film with Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford’s shingle Merman. Element’s Ed Guiney and Rory Gilmartin will produce with Horgan. Screen Ireland, BBC Films and the BFI are backing the film. Mountford, Element’s Andrew Lowe, BBC Films’ Rose Garnett, Mary Burke from the BFI, and Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson are exec producing.

Cornerstone Films Boards Elisabeth Moss Psychological Drama ‘Shirley’

Cornerstone Films has boarded sales on Josephine Decker’s “Shirley,” the psychological drama starring Elisabeth Moss as famed horror author Shirley Jackson, whose “The Haunting of Hill House” was recently turned into a Netflix series.

“Shirley” is based on the screenplay by Sarah Gubbins (“I Love Dick”), adapted from the novel by Susan Scarf Merrell. Michael Stuhlbarg (“The Shape of Water”) plays Jackson’s college professor husband Stanley Hyman.

Logan Lerman (“Indignation”) and Odessa Young (“Assassination Nation”) play a young couple who move in with Shirley and Stanley and find themselves fodder for a psychodrama that inspires Shirley’s next novel.

Cornerstone Films will screen footage from “Shirley” in Berlin as the presales effort gets underway at the Efm. Paradigm and UTA are overseeing North American sales.

Pedretti will play Love Quinn, an aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store. Love is uninterested in the world of social media, branding and self-promotion, focused instead on leading an interesting life. She is also tending to a deep grief — and when she meets Joe Goldberg, she senses a shared knowledge of profound, life-changing loss.

Pedretti is a recent Carnegie Mellon graduate. In addition to her role in “Haunting of Hill House,” she will also appear in the Quentin Tarantino film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and the Annapurna feature “Shirley” with Elisabeth Moss. She is repped by Gersh and Management 360.
