Revolution is in the air. Javert thinks Jean Valjean is behind it all. His obsession towards the man does not make him see things clearly.
Thenardier managed to escape by pretending to die of Cholera. Madame Thenardier was not so cunning, she is staying in jail.
Valjean has his own worries. Collette has fallen in love with Marius. Valjean wants to keep them separated. However I did feel that Collette and Marius are just experiencing teenage love that seemed to have overwhelmed them.
Marius reckons he has nothing to live for without Collette and makes a daring play when his mob battles the troops.
The scenes of the uprising were well staged. I do think Valjean's nobility to be misplaced at times. His show of burning his arm left him infirmed for no good reason as he tried to help out some random people who just turned out to have a past issues with him.
I do like Javert slowly succumbing to madness and even his fellow policemen noting it is unhealthy.
