A-Mien, a kind and loving 50-year-old woman, runs a grocery store in a remote mountain village. In her store, she keeps a notebook of which she gives the title, "conscience accounting book". The purpose of this notebook is to keep a tally of how much money customers owe her, as she more than often excuses the elementary school students from paying. On a daily basis, she tells them, "Don't worry about it. Just pay me next time!" One day, a mysterious wanderer, Jimmy, appears in the small village. While unsure as to the purpose of Jimmy's visit, Midori the postman mistakes Jimmy to be a priest. Because Jimmy's looks resemble that of a foreigner, A-Mien assumes he knows English, and asks Jimmy to give her and Yabi, a parentless child, English classes.
