Maria Botelho Moniz,
Parque Mayer was the park off all the emotions and amusements in the 1930' s. Under the dictatorship of Oliveira Salazar and his police, many people came to have fun in its theaters attending the portuguese kind of play called "revista". A writer called Mario Pintor (paintor) is writing a play in which a new actress (Deolinda) will star as the main role, while an already famous actor named Eduardo tries to seduce this recent arrival. This is the late movie of António Pedro Vasconcelos, a well known portuguese director.Written by
Yes and combining suitably drama and comedy. By the way of showing the rehearsals and exhibition of a Portuguese theatre revue the atmosphere of the fascist political regime of the dictator Salazar is shown in the well portrayed atmosphere of last century thirties. We can watch the censorship of all shows and the humans rights violations and the police brutality. All performers do an excellent job since they make us to love the good guys and hate the ugly ones. The only flaw is maybe a superficial characterization of some characters but that is not enough to lessen the good quality of this movie.
