Director Louis Leterrier confirmed at the New York Comic Con 2018 that this series will rely on puppetry instead of computer animation. CGI will only be used to remove puppeteers, especially in scenes that involve green screens.
According to official lore, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019) is set during a time on planet Thra known as the Age of Division. This is a time period lasting a thousand years, beginning with the Great Conjunction that split the urSkeks and ending with the Great Conjunction that (along with Jen and Kira's help) reunited them.
The first piece of screen-media in 'The Dark Crystal' franchise since the original movie. There have been comics produced before and after the events of the first movie, but Age of Resistance marks the franchise's first return to the screen in 37 years.
They're only eight Skeksis at the beginning of the series, instead of ten in the movie : the Treasurer, the Ornementalist and the Slave-Master are absent. The Collector, not physically similar to the Treasurer seen in the movie) would be a new character.
the Ornementalist returns later in the 4th episode.

After Seladon confronts Aughra, she mounts a Landstrider to head for the Castle of the Crystal. She gives a cry of "Hi-Ya!" to get the Landstrider moving, which is an obvious nod to Frank Oz and his characterization of Miss Piggy's trademark karate chop in The Muppet Show (1976).
