‘Supergirl’ Star Melissa Benoist Accuses Ex of Domestic Violence
“Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist on Wednesday accused an unnamed ex of repeated acts of domestic violence, including an incident in which she said he threw a phone at her face that tore her iris, lacerated her skin and broke her nose.

“I am a survivor of domestic violence, or IPV, intimate partner violence, which is something I never in my life expected I would say, let alone be broadcasting into the ether,” the actress read aloud in a 14-minute video posted to her Instagram account, which you can view above.

Around the 9-minute mark in the video, Benoist details an experience in which she said her former partner threw his iPhone at her face. “The impact tore my iris, nearly ruptured my eyeball, lacerated my skin and broke my nose,” she said. “My left eye swelled shut, I had a fat lip, blood was coursing down my face and I can remember immediately screaming at the top of my lungs.”

Ben Affleck to direct historical drama ‘King Leopold’s Ghost’

  • HeyUGuys
Ben Affleck is heading back to the director’s chair with the historical drama ‘King Leopold’s Ghost’. He will also serve as a producer on the feature.

The film is said to be inspired by Adam Hochschild’s best-selling book about Leopold II of Belgium’s plunder in the Congo and the Congolese who defied him and fought back. The struggle sparked an unlikely alliance between a black American missionary, an English investigative journalist and an Irish spy, resulting in one of the first human rights movements in history.

Apocalypto’ co-scribe Farhad Safinia is attached to adapt the script. Affleck will produce via his Pearl Street Films banner, alongside Martin Scorsese who will produce via his Sikelia Productions banner. Harry and Gina Belafonte will also produce. Emma Koskoff-Tillinger is also producing for Sikelia.

Every Jay and Silent Bob Appearance, Ranked

Jay and Silent Bob, the Mallrats from Clerks are back for more trouble as their new movie Jay and Silent Bob Reboot hits theaters this month. It's hard to imagine that these characters have been around since 1994. When Kevin Smith created the View-Askewniverse, it was probably doubtful that these characters would ever come back in any shape or fashion in 2019.

Clerks III Brings Back Marilyn Ghigliotti as Dante's Ex-Girlfriend Veronica

Clerks III Brings Back Marilyn Ghigliotti as Dante's Ex-Girlfriend Veronica
Another star from the original movie is returning for Clerks 3, as Marilyn Ghigliotti has announced her casting in the upcoming sequel. In the original Clerks, Ghigliotti starred as Dante's girlfriend Veronica - the one who brings him lasagna at work, not the one who sleeps with a dead guy in the bathroom.

On Friday, Marilyn Ghigliotti posted a series of photos on Facebook of a reunion with her Clerks co-stars, and in the caption, the actress confirms she will be reprising the role of Veronica in the new movie. She also explains how Smith revealed her casting to her during the photo shoot, with the photographer catching her genuine excitement. From the Facebook post:

"You've all been asking and I've been sitting on this since I found out because I needed to track down and wait for this series of photos. While at Comic-Con La, Kevin Smith was at the

‘Jojo Rabbit,’ ‘The Lighthouse’ Fuel Biggest Indie Box Office Weekend of 2019

  • The Wrap
After a summer that sometimes left observers worried about the state of the indie box office, this weekend saw not one, not two, but three films earn per screen averages of over $30,000 in the biggest specialty weekend of 2019.

The top average of the weekend went to Fox Searchlight’s “Jojo Rabbit,” which opened on five screens in Los Angeles and New York and grossed an estimated $350,000 for an average of $70,000. That total is higher than the three weekend total of Searchlight’s last release, “Lucy in the Sky,” which grossed $59,000 this weekend for a total of $274,000.

“Jojo Rabbit” wasn’t the most critically acclaimed film out of the Toronto International Film Festival — it has a 77% Rotten Tomatoes score — but it won the festival’s coveted audience award. Fox Searchlight distribution chief Frank Rodriguez told TheWrap that audience and exhibitor response to the film has been strong, and noted that director

‘Jay And Silent Bob Reboot’ Flirts With Heartfelt Maturity, But Can’t Resist The Dumb Dick Jokes [Review]

What are our children, if not reboots of ourselves? This is the type of question stoners may ponder deep into the night and probably the situation Kevin Smith found himself in while formulating the storyline for his new sequel/reboot/remake/satire/parody/pothead comedy, “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.” And when the holds the attention on this central theme, Smith’s latest comedy actually rises above the director’s own sophomoric, ridiculous tendencies. Though not for long.

Kevin Smith Talks ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,’ How Seth Rogen Made Him A Stoner & Much More [Interview]

It’s hard to have grown up in the ’90s and not be familiar with Kevin Smith‘s brand of slacker comedy. Between 1994 and 1999, Smith basically became the spokesman for a misfit generation of geeky basement dwellers with his films “Clerks,” “Chasing Amy,” “Mallrats,” and “Dogma.”

What bound all of those lo-fi 90s movies together, beyond their Diy, stitched-together spirit, sophomoric jokes, and (arguably unearned confidence), was their zealous enthusiasm about geeks inheriting the earth and chutzpah-y, can-do-it worldview.

‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Tour ‘Changed the Equation’ for How Kevin Smith Releases Movies

‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Tour ‘Changed the Equation’ for How Kevin Smith Releases Movies
Kevin Smith’s latest movie “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” is hitting theaters in an unorthodox way. After the film premieres as part of Fathom Events on both Oct. 15 and Oct. 17, Smith will then screen the film across a 62-city tour through February, giving a Q&a at every stop. It sounds exhausting, if not impractical. But “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” doesn’t have the luxury of a wide release and a massive marketing budget. And the audience most interested in seeing it already follows Smith religiously. In an interview with TheWrap, the director explained why he chose this distribution strategy rather than spend marketing money to chase an audience that isn’t there. ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Review: A Crude Nostalgia Trip for Kevin Smith Super Fans Only

‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Review: A Crude Nostalgia Trip for Kevin Smith Super Fans Only
You already know if you want to see a movie called “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” but in the unlikely event that anyone out there is still on the fence about buying a ticket for this Charlie Kaufman-esque belly flop back into the depths of the View Askewniverse, it might help to know that Kevin Smith’s latest bit of self-mythologizing starts with a proud nod to “Clerks II.”

The scene begins with the feds surrounding a New Jersey chicken shack called “Cock Smokers,” and ends with Jay (Jason Mewes’ perma-stoned alter-ego) rehashing an old bit that involves him tucking his penis between his legs in tribute to the serial killer from “The Silence of the Lambs.” Yes, “Goodbye Horses” plays on the soundtrack. It’s a callback to a sight gag from a sequel that was already dependent on viewers’ familiarity with a different movie the first time around,

Film Review: ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’

  • Variety
In a film culture overrun by Marvel epics, wild-stunt action flicks, and other grandiose juvenilia, it is often said that the mid-budget, script-driven movie for adults is becoming a thing of the past. But don’t tell that to Kevin Smith, whose “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” a shaggy antic throwaway that premiered Tuesday in the first of two one-night shows at 600 theaters (it will travel out after that in a 65-city road-show release), stands (sort of) as a proud exception to the rule of corporate blockbuster overkill.

It’s without doubt a script-driven movie — not just because Smith, after 25 years as a filmmaker, wouldn’t know an expressive (or well-lit) camera angle if it bit him, but because he remains, in his rowdy stoner never-made-a-dick-joke-he-didn’t-like way, a furiously flowing wordsmith, one who can write the kind of spontaneous sick-comedy monologues that heat up the screen. The budget for

Kevin Smith Is Building a New Empire On Low-Budget Sequels and Shameless Bravado

Kevin Smith Is Building a New Empire On Low-Budget Sequels and Shameless Bravado
Kevin Smith repeats himself a lot. Doing press interviews for “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” he keeps dishing about the heart attack that nearly killed him last year, the impact it had on his current motivations, and how lucky he feels to keep at his unique brand of dopey, comedic filmmaking. More significant, however, is the evolution of Smith’s business acumen. Even as the film industry faces tremendous uncertainty, he may have finally cracked the code that will keep his work relevant: Kevin Smith is in the sequel business.

Some 25 years after “Clerks” became a breakout Sundance hit and single-handedly created the geek-bro genre, Smith is finding new ways to mine his catalog. His new film returned to the bumbling weed dealers he introduced in his debut, and last visited nearly two decades ago with “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” This time, he said, it had to be about the money.

Kevin Smith 'Just Melted' in Ben Affleck's Arms After Reuniting on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot
Kevin Smith‘s friendship with longtime friend Ben Affleck is the stuff of Hollywood legend.

The 49-year-old actor spoke to People ahead of the debut of his new film Jay and Silent Bob Reboot which features cameos by a slew of stars including Jason Mewes, Affleck, 47, and Matt Damon.

“It was everything,” Smith said of Affleck’s involvement in the film. “It allowed me to elevate the movie. Suddenly I could include a scene that didn’t exist prior to him being involved that is like one of my favorite scenes I’ve ever shot. It’s really probably the best scene in the movie.

American Pie Stars Jason Biggs & Shannon Elizabeth Reunite, Tease Possible Reboot
American Pie stars Jason Biggs and Shannon Elizabeth have reunited 20 years later, and the two both seem open to seeing a reboot of the franchise. In the original installment of the popular movie series, Biggs and Elizabeth had a very memorable scene wherein the former blew his chances for a sexual encounter with the latter.

Two decades later, Jason Biggs and Shannon Elizabeth are both appearing in Kevin Smith's new comedy Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and Biggs and Elizabeth caught back up on the red carpet at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles for a screening of the movie. Speaking about a possible new movie, Biggs had this say about the idea.

"I am always down. You will never hear from me any reluctance, but I haven't heard anything for a little while. It is the most fun I have ever had working on anything. I love that cast,

Chris Hemsworth Wants Three Amigos! Remake with Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. & Himself
Avengers: Endgame marked the last time star Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey Jr. will all headline a movie together for the foreseeable future, but Hemsworth likes the idea of the three reuniting for a modern take on the cult classic comedy Three Amigos!.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actors are of course well-known for playing the beloved superheroes Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man. After appearing in many of their own movies, the three would co-star in many McU crossovers, most notably in the Avengers series. Now, Chris Hemsworth believes their on-screen chemistry could carry over well to a comedy along the lines of a new version of Three Amigos.

"That was so sad about kind of finishing Endgame, was just 'Were we ever going to get to hang out again?' And I immediately started thinking 'What else could we do?'" Hemsworth told fans at Ace Comic-Con Chicago.

‘Clerks 3’ Story Will Be Inspired by Kevin Smith’s Own Heart Attack (Exclusive Video)
Kevin Smith says that the plot of “Clerks 3” will revolve around the main character Randal recovering from a heart attack, a story that’s inspired by the director’s own comeback after a severe heart attack that nearly killed him back in 2018.

Smith shared the plot details exclusively with TheWrap while promoting his new movie “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” and after announcing last week that he is working on a new “Clerks 3” script.

The director says “Clerks 3” will begin with cynical video store-turned fast food cashier Randal (Jeff Anderson) suffering a heart attack and having something of a mid-life crisis after his near death experience. What he and his buddy Dante (Brian O’Halloran) do from there might be the most meta and personal twist Smith has come up with yet.
