The title of this movie is a quote from Tenessee Williams's play "A streetcar named desire". Blanche Dubois, the heroine of sorts of the play, says "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers" hinting at her past as a prostitute. This was just an awful film. Tennessee Williams and Zoe Kazan's grandfather must both be rolling in their graves. The director and writer ought to both get out of the film business, as should half of the cast.
