By series 1 episode 6, the UK ratings had plummetted. Apart from the thursday evening scheduling against other more popular shows on the rival network ITV (Channel 3 UK), and unexpected extremely good weather, the most obvious reason appeared to be that the series was marketed incorrectly. As "Kat and Alfie: Redwater", thus implying that Kat and Alfie would be the primary focus of the series, although the series was actually more of an ensemble piece across all 6 episodes, this title choice disenfranchised a lot of the Kat and Alfie/Eastenders fan base. In Ireland, as "Redwater" it was clearly pitched as an ensemble piece, so did not suffer as dramatically in the ratings as the UK, although it was a sunday evening drama series, so wasn't against any major rival shows in the UK or Ireland.
