Spoilers

The trivia items below may give away important plot points.

The premise has many similarities to the Michael Peterson murder case. Peterson was a novelist in North Carolina and the character Larry Henderson is a poet in South Carolina. They are both accused of killing two people in the same fashion (Peterson by pushing both his wife, and a family friend, down staircases, while Henderson is accused of pushing his 2 wives through windows) and both the real and fictional cases involve birds as a defense. Though Peterson's defense team never used it in trial. It was merely a theory that his lawyer was not willing to stake his client's life on.
