Kevin Hart to Star in Superhero Comedy ‘Night Wolf’ from StxFilms
Kevin Hart is set to star in the superhero comedy “Night Wolf.”

Hart will play an everyman meeting his future in-laws, a situation comedy films know all too well, but there’s a twist — the father in-law to be moonlights as the superhero Night Wolf.

Hart says he “instantly fell in love” with the pitch from “Detective Pikachu” screenwriters Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit and hopped on board. STXFilms acquired the project, and Hart and his HartBeat Productions will produce the film.

Earlier this year, Stx Entertainment announced a partnership with HartBeat Productions to produce two comedy projects starring Hart. “Night Wolf” is the third Hart project in development with the studio after the previously announced films “Black Friday” and an untitled romantic comedy. In January, Hart starred in the Stx-distributed film “The Upside,” which grossed more than $100 million.

Hart also recently lent his voice to “The Secret Life of Pets 2

Kevin Hart to Star in Superhero Comedy Night Wolf

Joseph Baxter Aug 15, 2019

The superhero movie genre is getting Kevin Hart comedy Night Wolf, which comes from the writers of Detective Pikachu.

Night Wolf is joining the seemingly-ceaseless deluge of superhero cinema, with Kevin Hart set to star-in and produce the comedic cinematic genre offering.

STXfilms announced its acquisition of the script to Night Wolf, which is being described as a “high concept comic superhero” offering. The early details of the plot describe a scenario that’s initially akin to Meet the Parents, in which a man (Hart) meets his prospective father-in-law, eventually discovering the secret that he’s the film’s eponymous superhero, the Night Wolf.

The Night Wolf project was pitched by writer Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, a duo who did some work on the screenplay for this past May’s live-action/animated hybrid film, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, as well as television comedy work on episodes of

'Hobbs & Shaw' coasts past $240m at global box office heading into second weekend

Nehza, The Bravest from China to challenge for global box office crown.

Universal Pictures International’s Hobbs & Shaw has climbed to $160.9m internationally since last weekend’s first wave and stands at $240.8m worldwide heading into its second session.

It is unlikely to be troubled by any other Hollywood release, although Chinese animation smash Nezha – now the biggest animation release of all time in the territory – could give the Fast franchise spin-off a run for its money, as could Bona Film Group’s action film The Bravest produced by Andy Lau.

Bo Report: Fast start for ‘Fast & Furious’ spin-off

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.’

As a spin-off, Universal’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was never destined to roar out of the starting blocks with the same velocity as the previous editions of the franchise.

But the opening weekend for the action thriller starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in Australia over-indexed the Us bow and the worldwide tally was a none-too-shabby $179 million.

The top 20 titles generated $17.4 million, a slight 7 per cent dip on the previous weekend, according to Numero. Palace’s French psychological drama/thriller Who You Think I Am proved to be effective counter-programming for non-rev-heads, while Sony’s Chinese firefighting movie The Bravest fared Ok on limited screens.

Rialto’s indie Us drama The Public and Madman Entertainment’s romantic drama Ophelia directed by Aussie Claire McCarthy struggled in line with their Us results.

Directed by David Leitch, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw clocked up $7.2 million,

‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Rocks To $120M Overseas Opening For $181M Worldwide Bow – International Box Office

  • Deadline
Sunday Update, writethru: Landing in line with Saturday’s projections, Universal’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw got off the starting block with an estimated $120M at the international box office. When including domestic, the global cume through Sunday is $180.8M. Across 63 offshore opening markets, the Dwayne Johnson/Jason Statham-starrer rocked up No. 1s in 52.

The start is the 3rd best in the Fast & Furious franchise. In like-for-like markets and at today’s exchange rates, it’s 1% ahead of FF6 and 43% below each of the last two films (which bowed during Easter). In unadjusted dollars, H&s’ launch is 22% above last year’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout. As a spinoff, H&s wasn’t expected to play like a Fast & Furious title — it doesn’t inherently have the same draw of a massive multi-cultural cast fronted by the Dominic Toretto gang. Fallout, though not a spinoff, has lined

Box-Office Weekend: Lion King Stands Ground Against Tarantino

Standing proudly atop Box-Office Weekend Rock (if there was such a place) for the second week in a row was Disney’s The Lion King. The live-action rendition of the beloved animated feature took in $75.5 million in its second weekend of release, giving it an impressive two-week tally of $350.8 million. In a distant second place was Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which debuted this week to the tune of $40.4 million.

The opening of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood gives Tarantino his best opening weekend, besting the $38 million Inglourious Basterds made in 2009. Tarantino also succeeded in knocking everyone’s favorite web-crawler from the second spot to third place as Spider-Man: Far from Home added another $12.2 million giving the super-hero sequel a four-week total of $344.5 million.

Similarly dropping from third to fourth place this week was Disney’s Toy Story 4, which added another $9.9 million

Bo Report: ‘The Lion King’ reigns as Stephen Amis’ Sea Shepherd doc sails in

‘Defend, Conserve, Protect.’

Disney’s The Lion King roared through its second weekend in Australia as the studio smashed its own annual global box office record set in 2016 last weekend.

Meanwhile Defend, Conserve, Protect, Stephen Amis’ feature doc which examines the long-running campaign to stop Japanese fishermen killing whales in the Southern Ocean, opened on seven screens in limited sessions.

Narrated by Dan Aykroyd and produced by Amis, Sea Shepherd Australia MD Jeff Hansen and Sea Shepherd colleague Omar Todd, the film fetched an estimated $7,200 but had already netted $37,000 from about 40 advance screenings and festivals.

The executive producer, Label Distribution’s Tait Brady, is happy with the reviews and media coverage and says the film will play through the end of the year with screenings for activists and community groups, after which he will negotiate ancillary deals.

He offered the film to several sales agents but they were wary of the anti-whaling stance.
