Grumpy Cat, Internet Celebrity, Meme Sensation & Movie Star, Dies at 7
We have some terrible news to pass along today, as we can report the internet sensation known as Grumpy Cat has sadly passed away. On the 7-year-old feline's official Twitter account, a post from her human family states Grumpy died due to complications from a recent urinary tract infection, despite the best efforts of top professionals. According to the post, the cat died at home on Tuesday morning "in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha." Referring to the kitty as their "baby and a cherished member of the family," Grumpy's owners say her spirit will live on through her fans.

Before rising to viral fame, Grumpy Cat was an ordinary feline named Tardar Sauce from Morristown, Arizona. Based on her permanently "grumpy" appearance, which is the result of feline dwarfism and an underbite, Grumpy first went viral in 2012 when a photo of her was posted on Reddit. Her likeness was

Less-known Christmas movies: Home And Alone For Christmas

Our hunt for overlooked Christmas films? Well, we thought it was a Home Alone film we didn't know about. Turned out it wasn't...

I was wary the moment I opened the package from Den of Geek and saw the words Home And Alone For Christmas staring back at me. I’m a big fan of the original Home Alone films, the ones starring Macaulay Culkin, but it’s a franchise that took a heck of a nosedive after he left, with a series of increasingly obnoxious-looking child actors being asked to recreate Culkin’s head-in-hands pose for the DVD box. So if Home Alone 5: The Holiday Heist was bad, how bad was the film piggybacking on the franchise’s success going to be?

Despite promising some festive magic with its doesn’t-quite-work tagline ‘When all elf breaks loose’, Home And Alone For Christmas (original title 3 Day Test,

Less-known Christmas films: Santa’s Little Yelpers

Is The Asylum’s Santa’s Little Yelpers a hidden Poundland Christmas gem? Er, read on to find out…

Santa’s Little Yelpers (originally: Golden Winter, a name presumably changed to avoid sounding like something a sexual deviant would pick from the menu of a shady massage parlour) is a Christmas kids’ film made by The Asylum.

The Asylum, as a rule, does not make good films. Appreciating that, among the knock-off ‘mockbusters’ and Netflix-plumping mega-monster flicks, might there sit a shiny gem of a Christmas picture? A movie, yes, written in under ten days for less cash than the average parent spent on Minions Kinder Eggs this summer, but a real bobby-dazzler nonetheless?

No.

To begin with, Santa’s not even in it. That means the titular little yelpers—Rory (likes jumping out of boxes), Snoozer (narcoleptic), Tinkle (incontinent), Jumper (no discernible character traits) and Scarf

Less-known Christmas movies: Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever

We continue our hunt for an overlooked Christmas classic in the DVD bargain bin. Our latest treat? Grumpy Cat...

Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever is a hard film to write about.

Without wishing to exaggerate its effect, it almost makes you feel like you need to unlearn everything you thought you knew about cinema in order to give it a reasonable assessment. I suppose I should start by saying it’s not a 'good film', but then value judgements feel futile in the (adorable and super-smooshy) face of Grumpy Cat. Besides, whatever insult you could level at this film’s content is redundant. Odds are it’s already been covered by the mega-meta self-loathing that oozes from every scene.

What makes it so compelling, though, is the simple fact that it exists. That you can buy it on DVD. That you didn’t just pass out

'Oh Heavenly Dog' Remake Planned, Will Benji Return?

'Oh Heavenly Dog' Remake Planned, Will Benji Return?
The 1980 Chevy Chase comedy Oh! Heavenly Dog is getting the remake treatment at Fox 2000, with the studio hiring Tim Hill (Hop) to direct. The filmmaker will also co-write the script with Dave Johnson. Temple Hill, the production company behind the young adult franchise The Maze Runner, are producing. The original movie was set up as a starring vehicle for Chevy Chase and his canine co-star Benji, who were equally popular back when the film was made, with the comedy existing solely on the box office draw of its marquee names.

The story centered on a private investigator (Chevy Chase) who is stabbed to death after discovering a dead body. It is decided that he won't go to Heaven or Hell, but instead is sent back to Earth as a dog, tasked with solving his own murder. The original comedy movie also starred Jane Seymour, Omar Sharif and Robert Morley. The dog was played by Benjean,

Aubrey Plaza Takes on 'Dirty Grandpa'

Aubrey Plaza Takes on 'Dirty Grandpa'
Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza has signed on to join the growing cast of Lionsgate's road trip comedy Dirty Grandpa, alongside Zac Efron and Robert De Niro. The plot follows an uptight young man named Jason (Zac Efron), who gets tricked into taking a road trip with his recently-widowed grandfather (Robert De Niro) right before Jason's wedding. Jason eventually discovers that his foul-mouthed grandfather is really on a mission to get laid during spring break. Aubrey Plaza is playing Lenore, a "savvy, beguiling party girl looking for fun on spring break."

Zoey Deutch and Dermot Mulroney also star in unspecified roles, although it isn't known how many characters are left to fill at this point. Dan Mazer, who made his directorial debut with I Give It a Year and co-wrote The Dictator, Bruno and Borat, is directing from a script by newcomer John Phillips. 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', 'Maze Runner', 'Magic in the Moonlight' and More On DVD & Blu-ray This Week

Magic in the Moonlight I found Magic in the Moonlight to be middle-of-the-road Woody Allen. I liked the performances from Emma Stone and Colin Firth and a lot of what Allen was exploring, but the end just left me cold. It felt like a cop out as if one Woody Allen made the first two-thirds of the film and a completely different person wrote the final third. You can read my full review right here.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a film for a younger audience, find that younger audience and they should enjoy what they see.

The Maze Runner I have not see The Maze Runner, which means I'm probably completely out of the game when it comes to the franchise that will soon be turned into a trilogy of films. Oh well, you can't see 'em all.

This is Where I Leave You Looked

'Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever' is the worst Christmas movie ever

'Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever' is the worst Christmas movie ever
Grumpy Cat would hate her movie. Like, hate-hate it. Lifetime's weirdly meta film, Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever—which comes complete with Aubrey Plaza appearing onscreen to announce she's voicing the beloved Internet meme—is, essentially, the story of one young girl's attempt at making friends and saving a mall. Yep; it sounds about as interesting as it is to watch.

Review: 'Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever' with Aubrey Plaza as Grumpy Cat

Review: 'Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever' with Aubrey Plaza as Grumpy Cat
Late in Lifetime's "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever" TV-movie, the cat that launched a thousand memes objects to a plot twist by asking, "Is this not my movie?" The film (it debuts Saturday night at 8), written by "SpongeBob" vet and "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties" director Tim Hill (who also directed this) and Jeff Morris, seems at war with itself as to how much it should — or can — be Grumpy Cat's movie, and the answer is "not enough," unfortunately. But at least the movie is aware of that problem, since it opens with Grumpy Cat (aka Tardar Sauce) — played in voiceover by Aubrey Plaza, in a piece of casting that feels like destiny — getting excited at the thought of how disappointed we'll be "when you realize this movie is just a sappy melodrama about me, Grumpy Cat." Except it's only vaguely about Grumpy Cat, and primarily about Chrystal

Grumpy Cat Makes Her Movie Debut, Gets a Stunt Double

Grumpy Cat Makes Her Movie Debut, Gets a Stunt Double
Everyone's favorite frowning feline, Grumpy Cat, is hitting the small screen in her movie debut this holiday season. Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever, which stars Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza as the voice of the famous cat, will premiere on the Lifetime network just in time for the holidays.

News: Grumpy Cat Finds Her Grumpy Voice in 'Parks and Recreation's' Aubrey Plaza

While the real-life Grumpy Cat is used in most of the scenes of the movie, Lifetime reached out to Jim Henson's Creature Shop to create a few different puppet versions of the internet star to be used as stunt doubles and in some wider shots. Creature Shop Creative Supervisor Pete Brooke talked to Et about the steps they took to build the famous feline.

"We're actually going to do three versions for this movie," Brooke explained. "One of them is going to be the puppet version which will have rodded hands and emote

Trailer for Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever

Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever movie actually exists and it will air on Lifetime. I'm sure some of you will even watch it because we're bound to have to some Grumpy Cat fans as readers. I personally don't get society's strange fascination with this whole Grumpy Cat thing, but that's the kind of society we live in today, folks. Here's the first trailer for the movie that features the voice of Aubrey Plaza as Grumpy Cat. The movie looks stupid as hell, and even the voice of Plaza can't save it. I posted the trailer, though, just in case some of you are curious.

Grumpy Cat "plays" a lonely feline who develops a sour outlook on life after living in a mall pet shop. Then, over the holidays, a 12-year-old girl named Chrystal (played by Megan Charpentier) enters the pet store and realizes she is the only one who can hear the cat talk.

Watch: So This Is What a 'Grumpy Cat' Movie Will Look Like

A tiny kitty with feline dwarfism named Tardar Sauce became an Internet sensation thanks to her permanently pissed-off mug. Dubbed "Grumpy Cat,” a photo of the grouchy darling was submitted on Reddit and the rest is Internet celebrity history. Except Grumpy Cat’s stardom has lasted much longer than the usual 15 minutes of fame... and now we can all gawk at the surly pussycat when her new movie premieres on Lifetime. Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever will feature Aubrey Plaza as the voice of Grumpy Cat, which is either the best or worst thing you’ll hear this week. Vulture advises that the movie centers on a 12-year-old girl named Chrystal (Megan Charpentier) who can communicate telepathically with Grumpy Cat — and now this is getting really weird...

‘Grumpy Cat’ Trailer Scores 1.4 Million Views, 5300 Dislikes In 3 Days

In June, Lifetime announced its plan to turn Grumpy Cat--the cantankerous feline made famous by a popular image macro--into a movie star. Grumpy Cat (whose actual name is Tardar Sauce) has starred in her own videos before, but her feature film debut will take her acting career to the next level. The trailer for the film is now out, and it has been mostly panned by the YouTube audience. The film is called Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever, and yes, it's a holiday movie. It stars Tardar Sauce as a disgruntled mall cat who goes on an adventure after serving as the subject of a young girl's Yuletide wish. Aubrey Plaza voices the titular cat, who seems to be powered by CG throughout the majority of the trailer (unless I missed the part where cats know how to fire paintball guns). If this sounds to you like Lifetime scraping

The Most Depressing Part of Grumpy Cat's Lifetime Movie is...

The Most Depressing Part of Grumpy Cat's Lifetime Movie is...
It's dubious enough that Grumpy Cat, a 2013 Tumblr phenomenon, gets its own TV movie. But in the trailer for "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever," which premieres November 29, you learn there's more to be depressed about than a cat who can basically be described as Real-Life Garfield.   "Fail," said the cat who is famous for having Orson Welles eyes.  Movies with talking animals are sometimes fine. "Homeward Bound" is -- wait for it! -- good. But what makes this movie more depressing than it should be is that awful voice-acting performance by Aubrey Plaza with its contrived languor and dryness. You can hear her regretting every syllable of her performance. Nothing is grimmer than realizing the star of a movie is actively wishing she were cooler than the movie. I am disappoint.
