In 1931 Nucky and Eli go their separate ways as the Thompsons abandon their rule of Atlantic City. Nucky also says farewell to William, Margaret, and Gillian as the Feds successfully prosecute Capone. Luciano revenges himself on Narcisse, and a new power structure governs organized crime. The origins of the characters are shown as the story flashes back to 1897.
