MPAA Rated PG-13 for sexual material and language

Sex & Nudity

  • A man displays a phone with a woman showing off her butt while wearing panties. She is not fully nude.
  • Members of both the barbershop and beauty shop have a discussion about fantasies that men expect from women and vice versa, which involves quite a few sexual innuendos in the topic.
  • A man suggests to a boy's parents that 15-year-old boys masturbate when they claim they are busy, and then comments he felt like he was 15 in the morning, implying that he masturbated. As a result, nobody wants to get touched by the man in question.
  • A man known as One-Stop performs screenings for people with sexually transmitted infections at the barbershop. You can see him put on his gloves on implying that he is revising patients' genitals, but nothing graphic is displayed.
  • A woman twerks in front of the camera in order to promote the barbershop, and the video is then posted on social media (we see a screenshot of the original post).
  • A man teaches a woman how to dance very provocatively in front of the barbershop. The scene is mostly made for laughs.
  • A woman insists to her husband to have sex with her by first attempting to pull down his pants, then by kneeling onto the bed, making gestures and by spanking her own butt.

  • A woman lures a married man in the back room and tries to kiss him, but then his wife discovers them both in the room and it almost ruins their marriage.
  • A man makes a sexually suggestive comment about his special meat rub, in which he claims it can be applied to 'all the meat' and emphasizes it to the ladies.
  • A man asks a customer if he is getting a haircut or if he is there to watch an old man twerk. The old man refuses to twerk even as he encouraged to do so. This scene is made for laughs.
  • A man utters in a low voice that he 'can't wait to give her this D', referring to his penis.

Violence & Gore

  • A group of gang members wearing blue clothing confront two teenage boys and attempt to rob their shoes, but a rival gang wearing red clothing shows up and confronts the other gang members and brandishes their weapons, quickly diffusing the situation. The gang in blue quickly disperse and the two boys are unharmed.
  • A man walks into the barbershop and confronts another man getting his hair braided. They almost get into a major fight, but it is quickly diffused by the owner.
  • Shots are fired outside the barbershop, but no one is seen getting hit by bullets. We later learn that a teenage boy was one of the victims and succumbs to his injuries the following morning (only mentioned and not shown).
  • A woman swings a kick at a man's butt.
  • An old man threatens to hit a teenage boy with a belt.
  • A woman tries to attack another woman whom she believes is having an affair with her husband, but is stopped by employees at the shop.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • An old man runs into the barbershop claiming that he taunted a group of men about how they wear their pants, and then mentions that they are out there chasing him to beat him up. Both him and the owner run into the back and take cover. As the owner grabs a galvanized metal pipe from the locker room, the old man is already in front and the owner rushes out with the pipe in hand to attack, but it turns out it was all a prank and the supposed 'men' was just a guy delivering sandwiches. This scene might be intense for some viewers.
  • A woman tells her husband that a man was shot (the scene is not shown and only mentioned), but we learn that he will survive.
  • Some relevant discussions about politics, the growing gun violence in Chicago, and the high-profile police shootings of black people (e.g. Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, just to name a few) may be distressing for some viewers.
  • A woman tells people at the shop that a teenage boy was shot and killed over a fight that occurred at a high school.
  • Two boys in high school get involved in a fight with a group of gang members (confrontation is seen only, but the actual fight is not shown), and we later see bruises on both boys. One of the boys' parents get into a heated argument about protecting their child and get stressed by the situation.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A police officer walks into the shop during a ceasefire, and he informs the employees that a promising teenage boy who frequented the shop often was shot and killed, which shocks everyone (this scene is not shown and only mentioned). It also causes the owner to go on a meltdown and threatens to move the shop on the north side to better protect his family. This scene is the most intense and upsetting part of the movie, which may distress viewers.
  • Two teenage boys are lured to join a gang, but as one opts out the other decides to move forward. When his father finds out about his son joining a gang, he rushes immediately to the park to get him. As he drives down, the gang leader questions the boy and warns him that if he joins it will be a for-life thing. When his father arrives, the gang members have already left and suddenly see the boy unharmed. This scene might distress some viewers.
