Jeorge Ejercito claims that this is the biggest and the most expensive Filipino film as it was made on a budget of PhP 130 million.
Some of the actors here( notably John Arcilla and Epy Quizon) also appeared in Heneral Luna, another epic film set during the Filipino-American War but played different characters. While they played minor roles here, on Heneral Luna, they played the main characters on the film (Quizon as Apolinario Mabini, a role previously played by his brother Ronnie while Arcilla as the Titular character General Luna who was previously played by Christopher de Leon). Other actors who were also in both movies were Allan Paule and Ronnie Lazaro.
Cast member Ian De Leon(Artemio Ricarte) is the son of Christopher De Leon(Antonio Luna) and Nora Aunor(Maria Agoncillo) in real life. Meanwhile Epi Quizon(Jose Clemente Zulueta) and Ronnie Quizon(Apolinario Mabini) were siblings. Aside from that, the cast also includes ER Ejercito's wife and kids.
At first ER Estregan's casting as the Caviteño General Emilio Aguinaldo faced criticism due to his heritage( He was a resident and eventually was elected as the governor of Laguna Province). In some interviews, Estregan defended himself saying that his grandfather was from Cavite, making himself also a Caviteño.
ER Ejercito was born four months before the real Emilio Aguinaldo passed away.
Though it is implied in the film that Maria Agoncillo(Nora Aunor) was younger than Emilio Aguinaldo(ER Estregan), in real life, Aunor was ten years older than Estregan.
