During the annual major SciFfi convention, Nebula 9 - super-fan Audrey O'Neill, who finally organized with a nerd couple a life performance there starring the short-lived series' original cast as well after decade of 'webipsodes', is found dead on set, killed with a real 'space laser', of which only two working ones were custom-made. Castle, who has better taste, is amused to find Becket was part of a college fan gang. The team works out various personal, career and business motives as well as opportunities for cast and crew. Richard Castle: Everyone in this room had a relationship with the victim. Each of you had either motive or opportunity to kill her. Uh... Ms. Frye, would you do me the honor of a little improvisation?
Gabriel Winters: Trust me, that woman needs a script.
Stephanie Frye: [annoyed] I'm happy to help.
Richard Castle: Ms. Frye will be playing Annabelle Collins. I will be the killer. Annabelle had the murder weapon on her the night she died.

Castle References to Firefly
15 April 2014 | by robinlexvaSee all my reviews

Did you know? When Caste is first belittling the "Nebula 9" series to Beckett, he contrasts it to good sci-fi shows, "Star Trek, Battlestar, that Joss Whedon show. . .". Joss Whedon was the screenwritter and creator of the 2002-03 TV sci-fi series, Firefly, in which Nathan Fillion also starred. This one of at least 3 references, probably more, which Castle makes in various episodes to the Firefly series. Another is when he dresses up as a space cowboy for Halloween, and Molly Quinn tells him the costume is so 6 years ago. The third reference I know of is when he unexpectedly speaks Chinese. When Beckett asks how he learned Chinese, Castle explains it was from some TV show he used to like.
