‘Downton Abbey’ Goes From Small Screen to King-Sized for Its Cinematic Debut

‘Downton Abbey’ Goes From Small Screen to King-Sized for Its Cinematic Debut
Downton Abbey” was a television giant before the likes of “Game of Thrones” captured audiences. The Julian Fellowes-created period drama was the biggest international series at the time, bringing home so many awards and earning so much acclaim that Guinness World Records hailed it as the most critically acclaimed English-language television series of 2011. With its conclusion in 2015 after six seasons, the only return worthy of “Downton Abbey” would be in even bigger fashion: on the silver screen.

Director Michael Engler is no stranger to “Downton Abbey,” having directed several episodes, including the feature-length finale Christmas special. The series takes place in the titular Yorkshire castle, home of the noble Crawley family and their loyal servants downstairs. Over six seasons, the family was touched by historical events ranging from the sinking of the Titanic and World War I to the Spanish flu epidemic and Irish War for Independence. Coming on to the movie,

10 Storylines From Sense8 That Never Got Resolved

Like Firefly before it, Sense8 has become one of those shows bemoaned by sci-fi fans for ending too early. After two successful, yet expensive, seasons, Netflix canceled the complex, beautifully-filmed show. Because of this, fans never got to see their favorite storylines resolved. Though Netflix gave the show a finale movie to try to wrap things up, also much like Firefly, there was too much to cover.  The series had a bunch of loose ends that didn't get tied up into any sort of conclusion.

Here are 10 Storylines from Sense8 That Never Got Resolved.

‘The Matrix 4’ Taps Oscar-Winning Cinematographer John Toll

‘The Matrix 4’ Taps Oscar-Winning Cinematographer John Toll
“The Matrix 4” is shaping up to be a major event, with Lana Wachowski at the helm to direct and co-write alongside fiction writers Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell, one of the most visionary sci-fi writers of our time. But another artist has joined the ranks.

Cinematographer John Toll will lens the fourth installment in “The Matrix” franchise. He is an Academy Award winner for “Braveheart” and “Legends of the Fall,” and was also nominated for Terrence Malick’s “The Thin Red Line.” Toll also shot Ang Lee’s box-office failure “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” at an extra-high frame rate of 120 frames per second, an experiment that Lee will tinker with once again for “Gemini Man.”

Wachowski previously worked with Toll on the much-maligned “Jupiter Ascending,” the shuttered Netflix series “Sense8,” and the ambitious “Cloud Atlas,” based on the time-hopping novel by “Matrix 4” scribe David Mitchell.

Nobody Asked For it But Matrix 4 is Coming

Variety is reporting that only one of the Wachowski's is on board for another Matrix film with both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss expected to return. Considering how terrible Jupiter Ascending and Cloud Atlas were, maybe someone else should take the reins.

It also seems that Morpheus might be recast for a younger star as there's no info on Laurence Fishburne which leads to the idea this might be a prequel. Aleksandar Hemon (Sense8) and David Mitchell (Sense8/Cloud Atlass) co-penned the script. There's no word on the plot but production for this horrendous sounding affair is tentatively set for 2020.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Lana Wachowski said.

Scripted by Lana Wachowski, Sense8 writer Aleksandar Hemon, and Cloud Atlas author David Mitchell, it’s quite a trio of talent behind the pen–and camera, with Wachowski making her much-anticipated return after reports the directing duo would be taking a break.
