Venom 2 Will Unleash Marvel Villain Shriek, Carnage's Girlfriend

The picture for Venom 2 is slowly starting to come into focus and the villain situation just got twice as deadly. Not only is the sequel going to bring Carnage into the fold, but it's come to light that Shriek will also be getting in on the action. This means Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock will certainly have his hands full during his second solo outing.

According to a new report, Shriek will be included in Venom 2, however, the casting process is still underway, so there's no word on who will be playing her just yet. Shriek, in the pages of Marvel Comics, is the girlfriend of Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, who will be played by Woody Harrellson in the sequel. Harrellson made a cameo appearance during a post-credit scene in the first Venom. Shriek initially appeared in the pages of Spider-Man Unlimited #1, which was part of the Maximum Carnage storyline.

Yet, after War for the Planet of the Apes, many were left to wonder, where do we go from here? I'm here to kindly suggest that it's finally time this series tackles the events of the original classic that started it all.

A little background on why now is the time to discuss this very topic. Disney finally completed its merger with Fox in March. Disney decided to ax most of Fox's development slate, but it was confirmed that they do intend to keep this particular franchise going.

Golden Globe winner Michelle Williams has confirmed that she is returning to the sequel to Sony’s Venom, reprising her role as Anne Weying.

In a recent interview with Yahoo, the topic of Venom 2 was brought up, to which Williams responded with “I’m in.”

Later in the interview, Williams began praising the new director Andy Serkis for his accomplishments as a motion capture icon, before taking on the role of a director.

“I’m such a fan of Andy’s, and I’m so inspired by what he’s been able to accomplish,” Williams said regarding Serkis. “He’s so gifted in such a specific way, and I’m very excited to learn from him and be around him.”

This announcement comes shortly after the confirmation that Andy Serkis has signed on to direct the sequel with Tom Hardy is not only returning as Eddie Brock but co-writing the script alongside Kelly Marcel.

The plot and title are currently unknown for the upcoming Taika Waititi project, but fans are excited to see more of the eccentric director's vision. Joining him in the producer's chair is Jonathan Cavendish and Andy Serkis through their Imaginarium banner. Cavendish and Serkis have produced films such as The Ritual and Cavendish produced the Serkis directed Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. Shooting for this new mysterious film is schedule to begin this fall.

This week it was announced that Andy Serkis is set to take on directing duties on Venom 2, teaming with Tom Hardy for a sequel to Sony’s Ruben Fleischer-helmed superhero blockbuster, and now Serkis has been chatting to GameSpot about his involvement with the film.

“I’m right in the beginning stages, so I’ve got some very clear ideas about the journey, [and what] I’d like to see visually, and how we can take the characters into another direction,” said Serkis, whose previous directing credits include Breathe and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. “I’m excited to work with all the great actors who are involved. It’s a fantastic franchise. I’m really honored to have been asked to direct it. And it feels like it’s a very, again, very contemporary story. Venom Sequel to be Directed by Andy Serkis

After grossing than $850 million at the global box office, it's no surprise that Sony Pictures is moving forward with a sequel to Venom. Earlier this year, it was reported that Venom co-writer and executive producer Kelly Marcel is returning to write and executive produce the sequel, and now Andy Serkis has been revealed as the director of the follow-up film.

The news of Serkis directing the Venom sequel comes from The Hollywood Reporter. While many know Serkis as Ulysses Klaue from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as one of the best motion-capture performers in cinema history from his roles as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings movies and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes film, he also has prior experience in the director's chair, having helmed Breathe, The Ruins of Empires, and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

Andy Serkis is stepping behind the camera to direct Venom 2, and the motion capture performance specialist is probably the perfect choice for a movie that will hopefully feature multiple symbiotes. He replaces the first film’s director, Ruben Fleischer. Having been linked to the director’s chair last week alongside Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), it has now been announced that Andy Serkis is set to direct Sony’s superhero sequel Venom 2.

According to The Pioneer, Serkis said he’s had meetings with Sony executives to direct the sequel after reports last month that he was in contention for the job alongside Travis Knight and Rupert Wyatt.

2018’s “Venom” grossed $856 million worldwide and starred Tom Hardy as the symbiote — the actor will reprise his role in the sequel, while Michelle Williams is expected to return as well alongside Woody Harrelson as Carnage. Kelly Marcel, one of the screenwriters of the first film, is writing the script for the sequel. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will return as producers.

With Ruben Fleischer busy with post-production on Zombieland: Double Tap, it seems that Sony is wasting little time in finding a replacement for the filmmaker on Venom 2, with Variety reporting that the studio has recently met with three potential directors for the Marvel sequel.

According to the trade, Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle), Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) are among the names who have been speaking to Sony executives, although it’s not believed at this point that a front-runner has been identified.

Despite producer Amy Pascal stating recently that there’s “no timetable” for Venom 2, it’s thought that Sony is looking to get production underway in the fall ahead of an October 2020 release.
