Exclusive: Listen To An Energetic Cut From The 'I Origins' Soundtrack By Will Bates & Phil Mossman

Blending science, romance and spirituality all into a movie we called "an intelligent and ambitious adult drama," you might think the soundtrack to "I Origins" would be perhaps somber or restrained. You would be mistaken. Will Bates and Phil Mossman, who have previously collaborated on "Lola Versus," "Generation Um...," "The Normals" and "Another Earth," take composing duties here and deliver something a bit unexpected for "I Origins." So turn up your speakers and read on... "No Time Like The Present" is a surprisingly propulsive and compelling track, that moves steadily in its brisk running time, never losing momentum, but also creating an undercurrent of undeniable atmosphere. And that seems to strike the right tone for "I Origins" which follows a molecular biologist, who makes a discovery that could change everything we know about society and humanity. It's another nice piece of work from a...

Watch: Nick Offerman in Indie 'Somebody Up There Likes Me' Trailer

"You know how you know when you're old?" Tribeca Films has debuted a trailer for an indie comedy called Somebody Up There Likes Me, written and directed by Bob Byington. I haven't heard of this film before, but it stars a few charming actors, including funnyman Nick Offerman in a fatherly role, as well as the lovely Jess Weixler (seen in Teeth, Alexander the Last, The Normals). This looks like a rather charming, funny, quirky indie romantic comedy of sorts, filled with all kinds of pretty faces. Keith Poulson is the young male lead, joined by Stephanie Hunt, Kate Lyn Sheil & Jonathan Togo. Take a look, have fun! Here's the official trailer for Bob Byington's Somebody Up There Likes Me, in high def from Apple: Nick Offerman (seen on "Parks & Rec", 21 Jump Street) stars in this smart, subversive comedy about a man, his best friend (Keith Poulson), and the

Interview: The Normals’ Jess Weixler
Ever since “Teeth” hit Sundance back in 2007, actress Jess Weixler has been in the spotlight while also flying under the radar, choosing smaller, independent projects, letting her sink her teeth, no pun intended, into meatier roles and get the opportunity to work in the most appealing environments. Well, the abandoned mental hospital she shot “The Normals” is wasn’t particularly appealing, but after a major redesign courtesy of a top-notch art department, it was all beagles, mind games and a ton of mints. Weixler stars as Gretchen, the sole female in a group of people opting to spend a couple of weeks at a drug testing facility to earn some [ Read More ]

The actress returns with the independent comedy The Normals, currently playing in a limited theatrical release before its VOD debut November 20. The story follows a man (Bryan Greenberg) who enrolls in a clinical drug trial to get out of debt. He is transported out of New York with an odd assortment of patients known as The Normals, one of whom is Jess Weixler's Gretchen. I recently had the chance to speak with this talented young actress about her new film. Here's what she had to say.

Can you talk first about your initial reactions to the script, and what you

2012 Sundance Film Festival: 80 Predictions Recap

Sometime late this month (or at the beginning of the month of December) the Sundance Film Festival will start unveiling the line-up for their 2012 edition. In an effort to give our readers a heads up on what we'll most likely be seeing at the fest, I've put together yet another predictions list. Caution: I cast a wide circle with a total of 80 predix so I'm bound to get some wrong, but as I've proven in prior years, I'm spot on with at least half the titles you'll find here. One of the most common questions I receive is: how do I know what'll be at the fest and where do I get my information? The answer: I've been going there seven years straight, been privileged to share professional relationships with those in the indie and foreign film sphere, but unless you're one of the programmers led by John Cooper, then

2012 Sundance Predictions: Kevin Patrick Connors' The Normals

#43. The Normals - Kevin Patrick Connors I've lost count of how many items Jess Weixler is attached to in my predictions list - but here is another indie comedy with actor Bryan Greenberg in the lead, a supporting perf from indie stalwart John Sayles and with a newbie filmmaker in the driver's seat. Kevin Patrick Connors' has been to Park City before as an Executive Producer on Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and The Normals will be his big coming out party. If accepted, this book adaptation will be part of the Premieres line-up. Gist: Based on the novel by David Gilbert, written by Chris Ciancimino, with a debt collector hot on his trail, Harvard graduate Billy Schine (Greenberg) enrolls in a clinical drug trial to make a quick buck. Carted out of New York City in a shuttle full of oddball characters, Billy and the rest of the guinea pigs,
