Disney's Mulan Trailer Arrives, Animated Classic Becomes a Live-Action Epic

Yesterday we passed along the news that the trailer for Disney and director Niki Caro's live-action remake of the animated classic Mulan starring Liu Yifei and Donnie Yen would be hitting today. And low and behold, that's just what we have For you guys this evening. You can go ahead and check it out below!

I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to checking out this live-action take on Mulan. After all, while it seems like every classic Disney animated movie is getting the remake treatment these days, Mulan was the only Disney flick I watched growing up and actually thought, "This would make a great live-action movie!' For some reason, I never said that about The Lion King. Not sure why.

While it's sad that fan-favorite character Mushu (who was voiced by Eddie Murphy in the original movie) has been replaced with a phoenix this time around,

Disney's Mulan Remake Trailer Drops This Sunday

It was just a day or so ago that we passed along the news that Disney's live-action remake of the animated classic Mulan is possibly ditching the Mushu character from the original film and replacing him with a phoenix. While that was some pretty weak news, we'll all be able to see if it works in the movie's favor sooner rather than later as today we have word that Fox has announced they will debut the trailer this Sunday.

I can only imagine Disney is finally unleashing the trailer for their Mulan remake because their other "live-action" animation remake of The Lion King will be hitting theaters in a few weeks on July 19, 2019. And considering that Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau's retelling of the classic tale is looking to snatch up All the money at the box-office, it makes sense that the trailer for

Production just kicked off recently on this long-awaited new take on the animated classic under the direction of Caro, who is known for her previous movies such as Whale Rider and The Zookeeper's Wife. She also worked previously with Disney on McFarland USA. Still, this is by far her biggest production to date. That said, based on this new image, it looks like she's taking to her new Disney blockbuster gig quite well.

The gorgeous behind the scenes image was shared by Niki Caro on Instagram as day one of filming wrapped up. There is a stunning set near a lake, featuring who appears to be Yifei Liu as the titular hero. There is quite a bit of green screen surrounding the set, meaning that digital effects artists are going to fill that all in later

The Zookeeper’s Wife star, 40, says she is passing on stereotypically female movie roles in an effort to combat old school Hollywood conventions.

“I am not one to go for traditional female roles, because I don’t think traditionally female characters are very interesting, and I don’t think they represent real life,” the actress tells Town & Country in their Dec./Jan. issue.

“I’m working hard to break free of stereotypes that the film industry has created and nurtured around women,” she adds.

In addition to choosing her roles carefully,

Jessica Chastain Explains How She’s Fighting Hollywood’s Gender Pay Gap
Hollywood’s gender pay gap became a hot topic following November 2014’s hacking of Sony emails, which revealed that the studio paid actresses less than their male co-stars. The following February, at the “Women in the World” conference in San Francisco, former Sony Pictures Entertainment cochair Amy Pascal (one of the most powerful women in Hollywood) addressed the controversy, explaining that actresses get paid less because they simply don’t ask for more. Since then, actresses like Patricia Arquette, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain have advocated for gender equality in the industry. Now, in the April 18 “Power of Woman” issue of Variety Magazine, Chastain explained what she’s doing to fight the pay gap.
