Sci-fi writer Harlan Ellison launched a lawsuit against New Regency and director Andrew Niccol, claiming that the film's plot bore an uncanny similarity to his short story "Repent Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman". Initially, Ellison was seeking an injunction against the film's release, which he then watered down to a request for onscreen credit. Ultimately the case was dropped with no money exchanging hands between any of the parties.

The map in Timekeeper HQ shows the lat/long coordinates of 33.9935 degrees N, 118.229(4)... Some can reasonably argue that it shows -118, but there would be no need for that if the W were included. The audience cannot see this, of course - it is off the display.

The stated coordinates place the location as Vernon, CA. If one looks at the map in the movie, this corresponds to Time Zone 12 (i.e. Dayton).

If one compares this map to a real-world map, one will also see that the shape of the depicted map corresponds nearly precisely to the real-world California coastline south and west of Los Angeles. Thus, Time Zone 4, that of New Greenwich, would be the Hollywood-Beverly Hills-Santa Monica corridor.

Note also that later in the film, Philippe Weis appears to only be in charge of Global Time Zone 16 out of 24 Global Time Zones.
