Mr. McLynn asks Martin to help him apply for a disabled sticker for his car, claiming that he has been in a wheelchair for just over a year but Martin finds out that it's more like seven years and when Mrs. McLynn bangs into Joan's truck, it becomes obvious which partner really needs the doctor's help. Martin falls out with the rest of the PTA when he disapproves of Louisa getting her old job back and becoming a single working mother, but he does kiss Edith after she has recommended a therapist for his haemophobia. Did You Know?

Regarding her paper, Edith spouts the old 'tell them three times' line. That shallow, platitudinous bit of advice is sometimes mistakenly attributed to Aristotle, the father of rhetoric; but the earliest record of that tripart triteness is a 1908 article on how to write sermons. See more »

Pauline Lamb: Let me take you somewhere, right now.
Al Large: Where?
Pauline Lamb: To apologize to Louisa. You said she was fat.
Al Large: No, you said she was fat.

Nothing particularly exciting in this one, though it is, as usual, well done.

This is a rather typical episode of "Doc Martin"--well written, well acted and enjoyable. However, it also has nothing particularly exciting about the plots--nothing that is earth-shattering or all that important.

The main plots are the McLynns and Louisa's job situation. The McLynns are both quite elderly and come to Doc Martin to get a handicapped parking permit application signed. However, when the Doctor tries to examine Mr. McLynn (who is in a wheelchair), he is argumentative and the couple stomp off in a huff. Something is going on here, but exactly what you'll need to see through the course of the show, as the couple clearly are lying about something. As for Louisa, as the old director of the school went crazy, they need to fill the position and Louisa seems like a natural since she was the director before she left town for several months. However, the Doc doesn't think she should be working since she's very pregnant--and does what he can to undermine her chances at the job-- and she is naturally quite resentful. And, in a tiny and odd subplot, the neighborhood annoying teens begin spreading the rumor that Louisa and Al are sleeping together! Overall, very slight but enjoyable.
