‘Jack Ryan’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer: John Krasinski Continues His New Journey As Thinking Man’s Action Star

Two key things happened in the history of Paramount’s “Jack Ryan” franchise based on the books by Tom Clancy. 1) 2014’s “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” starring Chris Pine, the second attempt at a reboot of the series, was a flop and 2) John Krasinski met Michael Bay and became a bankable and convincing action star (“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi”).

There are souls that are just too pure for this world, and anyone who watched season three of Stranger Things can testify that one of them is Alexei the scientist, joyfully played by Alec Utgoff. He'll break down complex ideas with fries, detect a real cherry Slurpee, and win carnival games in a hot jiffy. Sure, he might have been working with fishy Russians trying to open the gate to the Upside Down, but he turned out to be a stand-up guy. Without him, Joyce and Hopper wouldn't have been able to figure out the Russians' endgame otherwise. If you wanted to see more of this gleeful character, you're in luck - Utgoff has a pretty well-rounded filmography under his belt.

Producer Mark Vahradian drills down into the making of Pet Sematary

This article contains spoilers for Pet Sematary.

Mark Vahradian has been a producer or executive producer on the Transformers franchise, as well as movies like Deepwater Horizon, Salt, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and more. He’s also produced horror films such as 1408 and The Devil Inside, but now he wades into Stephen King territory as a producer on the new adaptation of the author’s classic 1983 novel Pet Sematary.

Like producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and screenwriter Jeff Buhler, Vahradian felt the gravity of adapting one of King’s darkest and best-known novels, especially since there was already a film version in 1989 that has been generally held in solid regard.

But this grim tale of an innocent family torn asunder by unexpected death, grief and a hidden, ancient burial ground suffused with a malevolent power was

Fans of author Tom Clancy have seen his character of CIA analyst Jack Ryan brought to life by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt For Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears, and Chris Pine in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Now it's John Krasinki's turn in the new Amazon series, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, which has just been made available for streaming in its entirety. In it, Jack Ryan is an up-and-coming CIA analyst who finds himself thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. The series follows the character as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed

How John Krasinski Plans to Make ‘Jack Ryan’ the Spy Next Door

How John Krasinski Plans to Make ‘Jack Ryan’ the Spy Next Door
John Krasinski needs to stay ripped — so he’s borrowing Dwayne Johnson’s gym.

He’ll soon be heading to Colombia to begin filming the second season of Amazon’s action-drama series “Jack Ryan,” in which he plays the title character, but for the last three weeks, Krasinski has been ensconced in Atlanta with his wife, Emily Blunt, and their children while she shoots Disney feature “Jungle Cruise” alongside Johnson.

As previously incarnated in films starring Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and (in case you forgot) Chris Pine, Ryan is an athletic role — one that requires things like punching bad guys and jumping out of helicopters onto Russian submarines. To help Krasinski stay in super-spy shape, Johnson offered him use of his private workout space.

The problem is, Johnson’s gym is outdoors under a massive tent. And this is Atlanta. In July.

“He likes to sweat it out,” Krasinski says.

Amazon’s New ‘Jack Ryan’ Trailer Promises a ‘New Frontier’

  • Variety
Amazon has dropped a new action-packed trailer for their upcoming spy thriller “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.”

Entitled “Presidents,” the trailer is bookended by quotes from Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy Jr., making it a timely release for this fourth of July holiday.

“Though our challenges are fearsome, so our strengths,” Clinton’s quote begins the action, with the titular hero (played by John Krasinski) shown in his comfortable CIA cubicle. But the imagery that follows proves just how complicated his life will become soon enough in the series, as building explode, armed forces perform ops in night vision, and he gets shot at and is forced to grab a gun and fire back.

A rendition of “All Along the Watchtower” performed by Devlin featuring Ed Sheeran plays under the trailer, which ends with Kennedy’s promise that “we stand today on the edge of a new frontier” as the premiere date flashes.

Moscow Pitches Cannes Filmmakers Even as Russia-U.S. Tensions Rise

  • Variety
As relations between the U.S. and Russia have deteriorated to nearly Cold War levels, Moscow is launching a charm offensive in the hopes of luring international productions to the capital .

The Moscow Film Commission presented a range of Saturday to promote what it calls “the most famous unknown city in the world.” As part of its pitch, the commission introduced a 400-page production guide with photos highlighting diverse locations, as well as a multimedia project produced by Russian movie support agency Roskino, “Moscow in Motion,” combining photography, film, and augmented reality, along with a smartphone app.

Roskino also announced a comprehensive database of production companies, equipment providers, and English-speaking crews and talent, in an effort to make the city more accessible to foreign producers.

“We want international productions to shoot Moscow in Moscow,” said Roskino CEO Katya Mtsitouridze.

While rebates and other incentives at the federal level remain a work in progress,

The Preview Reel: The Daddy’s Are Home Again to Take a Ride on the Orient Express

Welcome to this week’s “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide-release movies. Unsurprisingly, Thor: Ragnarok dominated the box office last weekend with a debut of $122.7 million, which was good for the fourth-highest opening of the year. The well-received Marvel film will likely repeat this weekend as Kenneth Branagh’s murder mystery Murder on the Orient Express and the comedy sequel Daddy’s Home 2 battle for second place.

Murder on the Orient Express

What we are excited about: Easily the most exciting aspect of this movie is the all-star cast that includes: Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, and Daisy Ridley to name just a few headlining this impressive collection of talent. If they are all able to bring their A-games and the mystery is intriguing enough, this could be an early holiday season treat.

What we are worried about: Kenneth Branagh stars and directs in the movie,

Murder on the Orient Express movie review: strangers on a train

MaryAnn’s quick take… Doubly dated, lacking in humor and subtext, its impressive cast deliberately underutilized, this is little more than an exercise in gorgeous production design. I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast

I’m “biast” (con): saw no need for another production

I can’t recall if I’ve read the source material (I might have as a teenager in my classic-mystery phase, but if so, clearly it didn’t stick)

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Here’s the biggest mystery of director and star Kenneth Branagh’s opulent period mounting of the 1934 Agatha Christie novel: Why? Who was clamoring for yet another retelling of a story that has been told onscreen — both the big and small screens — several times already, and as recently as 2010 in the beloved television series starring David Suchet as Hercule Poirot? Why bother to tell this story
