The Real Housewives of New York City Season 12 Episode 1 Review: Back in the New York Groove

The Real Housewives of New York City Season 12 Episode 1 Review: Back in the New York Groove
The Real Housewives of New York City are back, and while they've lost a cast member, they've gained another who may well emerge as one of the best in the history of the franchise.

It wouldn't be The Real Housewives without some shade being thrown, but I didn't expect much of the early shade to be hurled at Bethenny Frankel, who was no longer on the show.

Indeed, The Real Housewives of New York City Season 12 Episode 1 was a solid opener, but it was just par for the course for Luann to act as though Bethenny's loss will not be felt on the show.

If you watch The Real Housewives of New York City online, you know Luann has become self-absorbed over the last few seasons, to the point that the entire cast almost turned their backs on her.

Even though Bethenny stuck her nose where it didn't belong at the best of times,

We Calculated the Divorce Rate for Every Real Housewives Show and the Results Will Blow Your Mind

We Calculated the Divorce Rate for Every Real Housewives Show and the Results Will Blow Your Mind
For a franchise called The Real Housewives, it sure is getting harder and harder to find a star who you can actually refer to as, you know, a wife. When we first calculated these numbers back in 2014, when The Real Housewives of New York City star Ramona Singer dropped a bomb on Twitter, announcing her decision to leave Mario, it was already startling to note that the franchise had an overall divorce rate of 33.9 percent. And that was before Real Housewife of Atlanta Phaedra Parks split from her newly imprisoned husband Apollo Nida. And Real Housewife of Beverly Hills Yolanda Hadid called it quits with David Foster. And fellow Rhoa star Cynthia Bailey announced her separation from Peter Thomas after a rocky six year...

On Wednesday, streaming service HBO Max announced its order for “The Big Shot With Bethenny,” an eight-episode unscripted series in which contestants will compete to work for Bethenny Frankel, the business mogul and former star of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New York City.” Frankel, the founder and CEO of the lifestyle brand Skinnygirl, sold Skinnygirl Cocktails to Beam in 2011, but still oversees the rest of the company, which includes products such as shapewear and popcorn. According to the conceit for the new show — the first from a production deal she made last year with MGM Television and Mark Burnett — Frankel will be looking for a second-in-command for Skinnygirl.

Frankel is no stranger to reality television. She was the runner-up in the Martha Stewart season of “The Apprentice” in 2005, and also appeared on two recent seasons of “Shark Tank” — both Burnett shows. She was the breakout star on “Real
