Storyline

Jack, Owen, Toshiko, and Ianto track signs of alien life to an abandoned building, only to find that it is a trap as a series of bombs explode. As the team lies trapped in the ruins of the building, the scene shifts to show how each of them joined Torchwood. Jack's encounter with Torchwood comes in the Victorian era, when two female operatives bring him in to query him as to the whereabouts of the Doctor. Jack confesses that he is waiting in Cardiff in the hope of encountering the Time Lord. Although initially repulsed by Torchwood's procedures, he agrees to join after being told that over a century will pass before he encounters the Doctor again. He remains a member until the eve of the millennium, when he takes over Torchwood after the previous team leader murders the other team members. Toshiko is shown working in the Ministry of Defense, where she steals the plans for a sonic weapon. After building it she delivers it to two people holding her mother hostage, but all are captured ... Written by A. Nonymous

Goofs

During Jack's flashback scenes, he is in pre-World War II and using the name Jack Harkness, however he didn't use this alias until World War II according to the earlier episode Torchwood: Captain Jack Harkness.

Though this may have been a goof, Captain Jack Harkness jumped through time going billions of years into the future where he was given the ability to not die for a very long time (Doctor Who: The Parting of the Ways) before going back to earlier times. Though this isn't completely explained, as the Doctor said, time is "a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff." See more »

Quotes

Owen Harper: If you're not a figment of my imagination, then I don't know what's happening any more. Maybe this is what a mental breakdown feels like.
Captain Jack Harkness: You're fine. It's the rest of the world that's delusional.

A terrific trip down memory lane for the Torchwood team
30 March 2008 | by DVD_ConnoisseurSee all my reviews

In this penultimate episode from the second season, the Torchwood team are lured into a potentially fatal trap when a building they are exploring is wired to explode. Covered in debris and fighting to survive, the various team members remember how they were first introduced to Torchwood.

This is a great episode and its fragmented nature works well. The episode builds to a terrific climax, leaving the viewer ravenous for the final episode.

9 out of 10. This has been a cracking series and I dearly hope that many more seasons will follow.
