The trial of Jonathan Shafer is not going well for Deputy D.A. Garnett (prosecutor). Jonathan always claimed he was off fishing with a friend, Topper Barnes, whom police could not find and Brenda believed simply did not exist. With Barnes' sudden appearance, Brenda may have to accept that they have the wrong man on trial. Her instincts say otherwise and she looks to break his alibi for the day of the murder. Her perseverance turns up a lien placed on a second house owned by Shafer that may provide more than an adequate motive for killing. Meanwhile, Brenda begins to doubt her relationship with Fritz when he admits to something in his past, leading to a heated argument.
