Trivia

Final appearance of the character Amy Nelson. The original intention of the scriptwriters was for Amy (Louise Duprey) to marry Andy McDonald (Nicholas Cochrane) in the soap's first mixed-race marriage. However, shortly after filming of episode Coronation Street: Episode #1.3601 (1993), Duprey, finding it difficult to cope with her newfound fame, suffered a nervous breakdown and was granted temporary leave from the series. When it became clear that Duprey was not going to be able to return, future Spice Girl Mel B, who had previously appeared uncredited in the series as a Bettabuy worker, was drafted in to play Amy. The scene in this episode featuring Brown as Amy is therefore largely dark and focuses almost solely on Cochrane. Brown played the role uncredited and the character of Amy was quickly written out of the series entirely. In 2000, Duprey, who gradually became an almost total recluse, was found dead from a drug overdose. See more »
