The Best Reality Shows for Launching a Career, in 4 Charts
All week long, Vulture explores what happens to reality TV contestants after the show ends — and the future of the genre itself. Reality television may be synonymous with fame-chasers, but it’s also a field crowded with amateurs and semi-professionals trying to rise to the top in their industries. Are Top Chef, American Idol, and the legions of also-rans really the launching pads to professional success they make themselves out to be, though? We made it our mission to find out. The ground rules: We started with shows that aim to launch careers, and then discarded those that cast already-established professionals (The Next Iron Chef) or focus on behind-the-scenes roles where stardom is rare (Top Design, Shear Genius). Then we looked at the winners and runners-up of the shows that made the cut, and decided if each person achieved professional success after their appearance. We focused on the top two

Cameron Diaz's N.Y.C. Apartment: Tour the Posh Pad

Cameron Diaz's N.Y.C. Apartment: Tour the Posh Pad
Cameron Diaz is as glamorous at home as she is on the red carpet. Elle Décor visited the actress's chic 2,400-sq.-ft., pre-war New York City apartment for its October issue. The home is a collaboration with interior designer Kelly Wearstler - once a judge on Bravo's Top Design - who appears alongside a casually dressed, barefoot Diaz, 40, in the spread. Highlights of the tour include the star's bathroom, which features a regal-looking gold sink, a neutral-colored sitting room saturated with natural light, yellow accents and a high-heel shaped paperweight and a marble-topped vanity. Of the space, Diaz says, "I'm

How should Molly Sims shatter accessory designers' dreams?

How should Molly Sims shatter accessory designers' dreams?
Now that we know that actress, model, jewelry designer, and Old Navy enthusiast Molly Sims will be hosting an incredibly necessary Project Runway spinoff on Lifetime called Project Accessory, I feel a PopWatcherly duty to help her come up with a fairly lame but subject-specific sendoff line for each week’s eliminated contestant.

It won’t be that easy; it’s not like she’s German. (She’s probably a little German.)

How Should Molly Sims Shatter People’S Dreams?

“You’re booted.”

“Buckle up for the ride home.”

“I’m bagging you.”

“Nobody be jeweled by the rocks that you got.

Jamie Durie reveals reasons behind TV defection

Jamie Durie has revealed the reasons behind his television defection. The Australian TV gardener, who is best known for his shows Backyard Blitz and The Outdoor Room, originally worked for the Nine Network but moved to Channel Seven because he wanted a "challenge". However, he has since decided to return to his original employer to host new series Top Design. Durie told The Daily Telegraph: "It wasn't a financial decision, it was a new challenge. In the end it was the right decision. It wasn't the easiest decision but it was the right one at the time. I also got the opportunity to work on Sunday Night, prove my skills as a journalist, which I found really interesting. I learned a lot and I can bring all that back to Nine. "I've built some amazing (more)

India Hicks Explains the Royal Wedding to an American

India Hicks. Courtesy of the Learning Channel. For all the media hoopla surrounding the upcoming nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton—which, if you haven’t already been told a zillion times already, happens tomorrow, April 29, at Westminster Abbey—few people have bothered to ask the really interesting questions. We’ve heard ad nauseam about the wedding dress and the celebrity guest list and how much the bloated ceremony will probably end up costing (thanks again, British taxpayers). But do you honestly give a shit? I’d rather find out if any of the guests will be drunkenly doing the Electric Slide during the reception, or if the court jester will be invited to sit at the head table, or if the royal family even employs a court jester anymore. I called India Hicks, the model and occasional host of Bravo’s Top Design, to get the lowdown on the details that matter.

Exclusive: Go Behind The Scenes At The Exclusive Shopping Event, Design On A Dime!

Click here to view the embedded video.

Join me as I get a private glance at the event that’s definitely every shopper’s dream come true!

I have to admit, I didn’t know much about Housing Works Design on a Dime before I went behind the scenes yesterday with lifestyle guru Derek Warburton, but wow, was I in for a big surprise. The event at Metropolitan Pavilion, which could easily be NYC’s best kept secret, draws hundreds of serious shoppers on the opening night, (May 6), at the promise of scooping up gorgeous interior goods (some are even one-of-a-kind!) at an unbelievable 70% off from the likes of Ty Pennington, Nathan Thomas, Jaclyn Smith, Dean & Deluca, and Calypso, to name a few! Walking around, I couldn’t get over the gorgeous “rooms” each designer had crafted for the big day– I wanted to take everything home with me! The best part is,

"Top Design 2" has a gay winner

Last night Bravo aired the finale of its second season of Top Design, which found two gay men (Nathan and Preston) going into the last challenge. We'll go ahead and spoil it by saying that one of the gays won ... but which one?

Click on through to discuss!

Nathan's winning design

For their final challenge, the three remaining designers (Nathan, Preston and Ondine) were each asked to design the interior of an entire house. In the end Nathan took the prize for his muted, eclectic look, making him the first gay champ for the show (last year straight Matt won).

Preston's dramatic look

What did you think of the final designs? I have to agree that Nathan's was my favorite out of the three. Preston's was a bit dramatic and dark for me ... although if he would have volunteered to include himself as an accent I would have totally gone for that.

Video: Top Design's Eddie Talks Fashion Tips

It may be down to Nathan, Ondine and Preston going head-to-head in tonight's finale of Top Design (10 pm/Et), but caught up with last week's cast-off Eddie to chat about what inspired him to audition for a reality show, as well how his big boss lady, Martha Stewart, feels about on having an employee on the series.

Ricky Schroder Recalls Son's Devastating Crash

The usually golden life of former Silver Spoons actor Ricky Schroder took a dramatic turn in the summer of 2007 – when Schroder and his wife Andrea's eldest son, Holden, collided with a truck while riding his dirt bike near the family home, People reports in its latest issue, on sale Friday. On impact, Holden's helmet flew off and he was thrown through the air, sliding under the truck, where his skull hit the vehicle's axle. "It was the worst call," Ricky, 38, recalls about the sobbing message he received over the phone from his son's best friend. When they arrived at the hospital,

Queerview television guide for September 24

Dancing with the Stars (ABC) 8:00 PM EDT

It's time for the week's second elimination and... well, I'm pretty sure Lance Bass will be safe until the competition gets a little stiffer. (I'm really liking his partner Lacey Schwimmer after that inspired "Close to Me" quickstep.) For the moment, I'm more worried about getting a few more weeks of entertainment out of Cloris Leachman.

Bones (Fox) 8:00 PM EDT

After last season's finale, we haven't really seen out actor Eric Millegan as Zack. However, tonight sees Millegan make a return appearance as the Jeffersonian team encounters a case they can't quite solve without getting a little bit of help from their former colleague.
