Steve Dorn and his partner Gabe are forced to abandon their getaway car after a robbery and murder. Desperate to escape in any way possible, they take refuge in the boiler room of a hospital. They hold Logan (the hospital engineer) hostage and learn that equipment in the room also controls the hospital's electricity and other critical life-sustaining systems. Dorn threatens to destroy the building and kill as many of its occupants as possible by tying down the boiler's safety valve if he and Gabe are not permitted to go free. Dr. Feuer (the physician in charge) advises Dan Mathews that this is not an idle threat and that massive destruction and loss of life could conceivably be caused by this action. Dan knows that Dorn is sufficiently desperate to carry out the threat and he is also aware that he has very little time to prevent the catastrophe. He orders Sergeant Williams to penetrate the boiler room from a little-used tunnel in order to give Officer Larrabee an opportunity to shoot ... Written by Sam Spear

Narrator: One of the most critical problems faced by police is that in which armed and desperate criminals are cornered but not yet captured. The Highway Patrol faced two such men. So precise was their split-second timing, that in September and October of last year, the team accomplished eight daring major robberies.
