I went digging through my PS2 stuff and I found the controllers for this game as well as the character SOMEHOW getting sequels. I mean I sat down and played it just to test their functionality to trade everything in and I found a lot of stuff that angered me to my boiling point. I mean while Boom Boom Rocket had more redundant gameplay and less point this is the worst game I have ever played.
Okay the game has you select whether you want a single or multiplayer game, the music you want, the character you pick, their clothes, your name and your buzzer sound... Don't you think they overthought this just a LITTLE BIT! I mean couldn't they just go for a singular buzzer sound you hear on normal quiz shows? They HAD to go for duck quacking, car horns and what they consider "Space noise". Then the game starts.
Now when you play it the character that should be booted back to the 64-bit era announces the different types of games to get quizzed on you will quickly realise THEY'RE ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME! I mean you get questions right and you gain points and some where the other player loses points for it. That's the novelty of this game - "Ooh, I gain points, ooh I lose points".
But all this grants a "What did you expect?" but here's a complaint that I should NOT expect. The Buzz character himself - If you get enough questions wrong in a row (about 2 or 3) he starts to mock you and be condescending to you. Because THIS is how to teach your kids stuff, to have them get mocked if they get questions wrong. I guess I come from somewhere that believes "if they get something wrong, be nice about it" but here if you get enough questions wrong he starts to insult you. All I have to say is that if the game that ISN'T quiz related is a fighting game I'll be sure to get it if it means beating up this character.
All in all, they overthink the set-up, the main character is like Jar Jar Binks and Edmund Blackadder's bastard love-child and every single quiz is exactly the same. I'd say if you want to play a quiz game with your children, get out Trivial Pursuit.
