MPAA Rated PG-13 for violence, language and some drug material

Sex & Nudity

  • One very quick scene lasting about 3 seconds shot from behind of a naked woman wearing only a thong walking towards Jack presumably after sex.
  • One scene shows a woman briefly in her underwear getting dressed. You see her buttocks in a thong (non-sexual). This occurs early in the movie, during (but is unrelated to) a discussion between Rodin and Emerson about Jack Reacher's past.
  • A man describes a "rape rally" that occurred where many women and girls were raped by military contractors. We see the men outside of the building, apparently after the raping.
  • References are made to sex multiple times, some more obvious than others.

Violence & Gore

  • There's one lengthy, brutal fight scene at the end between Reacher and a bad guy.
  • Violence right from the start, when a lone gunman shoots five people with a sniper rifle (a scene that's revisited later in the movie), with the deaths seen in the distance. In later flashbacks, the killings are depicted at closer range. The deaths are quite explicit and even include small amounts of blood spray. One of the victims is a nanny who is caring for a 6-year-old child and reassuring her everything is going to be OK just before being shot (this is not shown onscreen like the other deaths, though). It's a fairly disturbing scene.
  • Jack Reacher, the main character, is a former soldier, highly trained with guns and in hand-to-hand combat, and the film finds plenty of chances to showcase his abilities. He takes on a group of toughs in a few street brawls, leaving them bloodied and sometimes with (minor) fractures. Other scenes feature execution-style killings and allusions to torture. There's also a high-speed chase through city streets that damages plenty of cars.
  • One woman killed by blow to the head and suffocated by hand.
  • One character killed by hitting him twice in the head with a large rock. This is quite explicit. Another victim is killed by having his skull crushed offscreen by being stepped on.
  • One character is shown being shot in the head, another is implied to be shot directly in the face.
  • A character is depicted being forced at gunpoint to try and gnaw off his own fingers.
  • At the end of the movie, a young man is being aggressive to his girlfriend on a bus before the movie's protagonist intervenes.

  • Relatively infrequent swearing, but includes "pussy," "shit," "asshole," "bitch," "prick," "damn," "hell," "ass," "goddamn", "for Christ's sake", "Jesus"
  • Infrequent use of the words whore and slut
  • One use of the phrase "fuck you".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • One scene takes place in a bar where people in the background are drinking. Reacher sticks to coffee. A villain owns a cocaine farm, and it is spoken about briefly.
  • Sandy mentions her friend Jed "cooks crystal meth".
  • An older woman is shown on the porch of a house seemingly strung out on drugs.
  • At one point, main characters talk while drinking beers.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some intense and borderline brutal fight scenes - thumbs poked in eye, kicks to crotch, arms and fingers twisted.
  • A villain is told to bite his own fingers off to prove he deserves not be killed by his boss.
  • Quite violent for PG-13 material.
