Josh captures a wanted recruit and returns him to the Army, but the Captain at an encampment refuses to pay the bounty as he has another use for the trooper. The Colonel at an Army post drafts Josh to stop the mentally unstable officer.
At an abandoned fort Josh captures the wanted trooper Allen Stokes who has been causing trouble with the Kiowa tribe. Because of a crippled horse, Josh takes him to a nearby Army encampment for the $1000 bounty. However, the commanding officer Capt. William Phelps refuses to pay the bounty and instead decides to hire Stokes to plot a massacre of the Kiowa. Threatened with being shot, Josh goes to the closest Army post where he meets Jason. Together they learn from Col. Bradley that Phelps is mentally sick due to his wife and child being killed by the Kiowa. Upon learning from Josh that Phelps plans to massacre the Kiowa, Bradley conscripts Josh to return to Phelps with orders relieving him. Josh has no option but to obey. He finds the detachment but Stokes shoots Josh wounding and knocking him out. When Josh awakens, Phelps is burning the paper orders he was carrying. He then orders Lt. Carson to take charge of Josh for the firing squad he has ordered.Written by
In the beginning of the show Allen Stokes runs into an abandoned building and when shown in the front room the window glass is opaque while the view from Josh Randalls viewpoint shows the window glass as clear. Also when he shoots out one pane of glass that shows a hole from the inside view all of the glass is intact from the outside view, same after the second shot by Josh at Allen. See more »
During this show, the colonel tells Josh that "Under extreme circumstances, he can order s civilian to be conscripted into the US Army under penalty of life in prison (if refused)". This is absolutely untrue, & never has been when America not in a state of war. See more »
"If the captain doesn't get me, the colonel will. If the colonel doesn't get me, the Indiians will." "Do you have a rock in your boot, or do you have something in mind?" Josh Randall asks an insulting soldier. A few minutes later, Josh changes his mind about the guy after hearing him explain the facts-of-life to his stupid commander. "Man, you're carrying a mountain around, not a rock," he tells the soldier.
All of this has to do with the man Randall has brought into an Army post, a low-life guy who gets his kicks killing Kiowa Indians. We soon fight out this Army commander is literally nuts and instead of giving Josh his money and taking charge of the captive, he offers the villain a chance to be a scout for the Army against the Kiowa! Josh says "no way," but under the threat of a firing squad, he leaves.
Later, he's actually seconds away from that firing squad, making this another bizarre but very interesting episode. You're never quite sure what you'll see in these "Wanted: Deal Or Alive" shows, except that McQueen (Randall) will live to see another week.
This story has tons of twists and turns.
