Fred G. Sanford
[Describing his underprivileged childhood
When I was his age, Christmas 1936, my Dad gave me an empty box. Later that night came back and took it, gave it to my brother. It was six of us kids slept in the same bed. I was never cold and I was never dry. One December it rained and snowed. It was so cold. I didn't even have a sled, so I slid down the hill on my cousin.
