Boston mob boss Carmine Abruzzi was rescued by his goons from arrest and decides to 'retire' early. His son, Michael, promised his wife, Gladys, to turn the family legitimate, so both dislike him being appointed successor, instead of eager brother Salvatore, at a family dinner. When Carmine enters his limousine, a sniper wounds him badly. Seth, who was dining with Jessica at the same fancy restaurant, is abducted to treat him urgently but 'discretely'. Jessica reports him missing to BPD Lieutenant Jerry Marino and finds proof of a shooting. Seth is returned safely, but both of them ask to stay overnight so the FBI can question them. Carmine dies shortly after Seth left him. Doc and Jessica are both kidnapped to 'family' lawyer Andrew Gant's country mansion. He's suspected of fatal incompetence but finds someone stole and injected a lethal drug from his bag. Written by KGF Vissers

Did You Know?

This was the first appearance in season 7 for William Windom (Dr Seth Hazlitt). Despite several episodes taking place in Cabot Cove, and Seth generally being Jessica Fletcher's primary Cabot Cove companion, he had not appeared until the halfway point of the season. The reason for Windom's absence was due to his work on the production of the NBC drama Parenthood (1990), where he played grandfather Frank Buckman. See more »

When Lt Marino plays the tape recording of Seth's account of his kidnap for the FBI agents, the wording in the recording is not the same as what Seth is heard saying to Lt Marino earlier. See more »

Carmine Abruzzi: In the village in Italy where I grew up, the sky was the color of the wine grapes, the sun was a slice of lemon. In the hot afternoons, I used to lay under the shade of the olive trees, dream I was Joltin' Joe DiMaggio, hitting the World Series home run in Yankee Stadium.

JB Fletcher meets The Godfather
30 January 2018 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

This Murder She Wrote story involves Angela Lansbury and William Windom in Boston for a weekend and Dr. Hazlitt insists on going to a favorite seafood restaurant he's patronized for decades. It's under new management though and when Tige Andrews the local Godfather who now indirectly runs the place is shot, they note that the reservations included a doctor. So William Windom is summoned to treat a shot Tige Andrews.

Unfortunately he leaves poor Angela Lansbury alone and she calls in the Boston PD. Later Andrews dies and the children blame William Windom for the demise.

I was not crazy about the ending at all. No way in the world would this have happened in real life.

Not one of the better stories.
