Ewan believes he's struck gold when he discovers that Amy has photographed a monster emerging from the loch. Although skeptical at first, Paul too soon finds himself captivated by the mystical creature and the magical power it seems to have.
Paul's goddaughter Amy is an active photographer and one of her snaps of the lake reveals something quite interesting - a long-necked sea monster in the same vein as the Loch Ness monster. Paul thinks it's all nonsense and won't allow two academics to launch their boat and conduct a proper study. Ewen thinks Paul is the one who is mad for not seeing the marketing opportunity it presents. One of scientists, Bill, takes a liking to Jess. Paul is expecting the regular visit from the estate's accountant, Hamish, who has particularly bad news about their current finances. Paul has also had Iona's cottage rebuilt but insists that everything be done exactly as it was before the fire. Amy, it turns out, has not been attending class at the local school feigning illness.
