Storyline

When Marcello describes the sisters' to others as "guys", they think that he needs a fatherly male influence in his life. When questioned, Marcello chooses Carlos. Sister Bertrille in turn talks Carlos into being Marcello's surrogate father on occasion. But Carlos' memory fades quickly when he chooses to spend the day with beautiful Lila rather than keep his appointment to go sailing with Marcello. But unbeknownst to Sister Bertrille, Carlos does takes Marcello out on the boat as primary crew, while Carlos spends most of the time pampering Lila below deck. Despite Marcello having a good time and hoping Carlos will adopt him, Sister Bertrille fires Carlos as surrogate father. When Marcello finds out that Carlos needs to be married to adopt him, he takes matters into his own hands and places a newspaper ad looking for a wife for Carlos and a mother for himself. Despite having no money for an ad, the newspaper man decides it would be a good human interest story and places it on the front... Written by Huggo

Quotes

Sister Sixto: Carlos is a very good sailor. You know once, he sailed that boat through a hurricane, and that's quite a foot.
Sister Bertrille: No, you mean feat.
Sister Sixto: No, foot. He only did it once.

A wife for Carlos
12 September 2018 | by JordanThomasHallSee all my reviews

Sister Bertrille feels one of the children in the convent, Marcello (Manuel Padilla Jr.) is lacking a father-like figure to look up to. She is concerned when he says that person is Carlos. She asks Carlos to take Marcello sailing the next day, but he forgets after wooing Lila (the screen debut of the lovely Farrah Fawcett, "Charlie's Angels") and brings her along as his "crew". Marcello takes the wheel to essentially chauffeur the couple around. When Sister Bertrille learns of the situation she is angered. Nevertheless, Marcello wants Carlos to adopt him, but Carlos must be married first. The boy goes to local newspaper office to take out an ad for a wife for Carlos. The editor (Peter Mamakos) finds the situation amusing and runs it as a feature story on the front page. Women swarm Carlos and he flees with Marcello jumping in the car with him. They have a heart-to-heart while hiding out by a fountain.
