Trouble brews when Bronco is leading a wagon train through the wilderness. It seems that an old army buddy of his is on the train, and he's brought along the runaway daughter of a powerful cattle rancher, who doesn't like it one bit.

Bronco is leading a wagon train up the Bozeman Trail to Montana. When he stops at the local saloon and hotel to have his mail forwarded, he runs into Pete Loomis who was a Sergeant under him during the war but was captured. Pete tells Bronco he is looking for the boss of the wagon train and Bronco says he is welcome to join but they are leaving now. Pete has some business to take care of so he agrees to meet the wagon train later that night as it won't be moving fast. After Pete and Bronco leave, the bartender stops Mitch Krass and asks if he is still willing to pay a double eagle for information on Pete Loomis which he is. Krass joins the train as well and eventually tells Bronco he is looking for Pete. Bronco decides to go off the Bozeman Trail to avoid the Sioux who are on the warpath but Matt Ryker refuses to let them cross his 200,000 acre ranch so they stick with the Bozeman Trail.
