Did You Know?

In the Type For You office, Aunt Penny mutters "pas devant" to Gene, motioning over her shoulder at Judith. The phrase is, of course, French, and means "Not in front of..." The two classic ways to complete the phrase, and each meaning, are "Pas devant les domestiques," ("Not in front of the servants,") and "Pas devant les enfants," ("Not in front of the kids.") Because Aunt Penny intentionally left the phrase unfinished, Judith pointed out that either way, though situationally understandable, was in her case specifically inaccurate. See more »

Lionel is wearing a new shirt that still has obvious wrinkles, either from being worn right out of the package, or perhaps it came back folded from the cleaners. In either case, Jean, or perhaps Lionel himself, would have ironed it. See more »

[first lines]
Lionel: There's no need for you to hang about, you know.
Jean: No, I'm not hanging about; I'm just, um, putting some papers in order.
Lionel: I'd have thought you'd have done that at the office.
Jean: No, I can put my papers in order where I like.
Lionel: I know what all this is about, you know; it's because Daisy starts this morning, isn't it?
Jean: Don't be absurd.
Lionel: Yes, it is. You want to see what she's wearing.

Zoe Hilson features as Daisy, Lionel's secretary
17 February 2020 | by safenoeSee all my reviews

Here there's a misunderstanding about an affair, but there's a major twist in the end on how Stephen deals with the misunderstanding. It's not something the audience expected, and that's the beauty of As Time Goes By. Sure, the series seems predictable, but there are twists, almost akin to The Twilight Zone I guess. Zoe Hilson makes her second appearance as Daisy, Lionel's secretary.
