Did You Know?

When Connor is confronting Angelus, Angelus mocks him by saying "Doin' your mom and trying to kill your dad--there should be a play." This is a sarcastic allusion to Oedipus Rex, the ancient Greek play wherein the hero is, by prophecy, condemned to kill his father and sleep with his mother. The plot of this play also inspired Sigmund Freud's concept of the "Oedipus complex" in his semi-extreme psychoanalytic theories. See more »

Stinky poopy pants
17 March 2020 | by kingsx_64See all my reviews

This is the first episode of Angel I actually hated. We get all this dialogue about how evil Angelus is before they find a way to remove Angel's soul. Warning after warning of the dangers that are facing them. "You have no idea how bad Angelus is. He's pure evil" etc And then, when Angelus finally emerges, to show us how evil he really is, he hurls childish insults. Huh? He calls Fred skinny (bag of bones) He makes fun of Wes by saying he has a crush on Fred. Um, that's not evil, that's a couple of normal 5yr olds in every school in America. In fact, his insults were so childish and lame, I don't doubt that those 5 yr olds wouldn't make Angelus run home to mommy crying. What the writers used to get in the characters head by "casting doubt" would have made most people cry from laughter. And people liked this? I don't know. Maybe the other reviewers were young when watching. But it wouldn't take me five minutes to write something that would actually sound evil, and not childish. And I'm not even a writer. In fact it got so bad, I have expected him to call someone a Stinky poopy pants. At least that would have made me laugh. But all I got was one hour long eye roll at how "evil" Angelus was.
