A devastating May 21, 1960 earthquake in Chile causes a tsunami in Hawaii. Desperate island resident Jean Allison (as Margaret North) has polio, and cannot evacuate from her wheelchair; her Naval engineer husband, Dennis Patrick (as Emmett "Em" North), is too far away to assist. Also in danger is hard-of-hearing retiree Cliff Hall (as Thomas "Tom" Powers), who is oblivious to radio warnings and sirens. The two potential victims prove unexplainable events can occur anywhere...
This third season opener is quite good, dramatizing the psychic event with just the right amount of mystery and suspense. It's also nicely performed, by veteran TV series cast members from "Emergency!" (Ms. Allison), "Dark Shadows" (Mr. Patrick), "Johnny Jupiter" (Mr. Hall), "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" (Ted Knight) and others. In the epilogue, "One Step Beyond" host John Ireland introduces us to the real Margaret North. She's one of the supernatural series' more convincing psychics.
